Unless he's improved much from his Atletico days De Gea is still very much an unfinished product. Tall and great at diving saves, yes, but lacks/lacked command of the penalty area and experience. He's quite tall so he'll be able to overcome his cross-handling issues. Overall I'd probably choose a different GK, but I admit to not being an expert.

GKs are also one of the most difficult positions to compare, there can be brilliant, unnoticed players at smaller clubs like in no other position.

Time to take the next step and play Masch or Song between the posts.

He'll have to do it in order to prove he's more complete than CR7 :pep:

His passing is crucial, his position is definately part of the system:)shakeshead:), and his passing accuracy is definately NOT average for a GK. I am not going to spend time telling you why, there are plenty of sources out there who has done that and done it better than i could.

Those trophys came in 8 years. For Barca, that is bad. It is not 2000-2003. It is 1994-2002. And i didn't say it made all the difference. I am saying it was a big part of that crisis, the lack of a consistent goalkeeper.

Those trophies came in the first 5 years , so they were good for those time ,then the whole team was in crisis ,with a good team and a bad goalkeeping for 5 years we got all those tournaments, with bad team and bad GKs we got nothing for next 4 years(VV wasn't a starter until 2003 if i remember correctly )
And I still stand to my point ,we are totally overrating his role in our system
My bottom line ,we can do worse or better than VV ,And he had his ups and downs

try to keep Valdes,if not go for Ter Stegen, the only problem i see is the language barrier
Courtois would be awesome but almost impossible to get...

With Cech still has 3-5 years as Chelsea first choice ,I think Courtois would try to force his way out if he has a chance to be Barca first GK ,I think it will be actually tough for Chelsea to keep him if this is the situation
As for Ter Stegan ,Language barrier won't be a big problem ,he will learn it quickly probably ,with rumors of Barca interest for about year now won't be surprised if he actually started learning it ,we might also keep VV for the end of his contract until Stegan learn the language and to ease his transition gradually with the team

Will be difficult to replace him initially but in the long run, it had to happen at some point anyway. Much better that it is now rather than some point when a lot of other players leave too. You never want a big turnover

Well,it seems we are seeing last season of Villa too,and might be Alexis with them ,and won't be surprised if we accept a big offer from one of the reach clubs for Alves, I actually think next summer we might see the biggest turnover in the team since 2008 ,but rightfully though considering some players are starting to get old

I just really dislike the way this was done... I hope it doesn't create a problem on the dressing room, and it doesn't affect the way Barça has been playing as well.

Not to mention that the fans could turn on him the second he allows a bad goal, thinking that he just doesn't give a damn anymore. Surely he must have thought of that?

He's being heavily criticized by the catalan press. Called irresponsible, oportunist, ungrateful... I read a pundit from sport who believes he was seducted by money, that nothing else can explain this positioning he's taken, of not even wanting to listen to anything Barça could offer.
He could've waited till the summer to drop the bomb, at least to make it public... Really hope this won't mess up the team :(

Anyone here know what his wages are? He could be doing a Rooney and threatening to leave for higher wages.

If he does go perhaps he might follow Pep to Bayern.

Don't understand why many people are saying that being a goalkeper in Barca is hard....it is hard for any keeper in any top club see Casillas, the guy is the best keeper they ever produced, one of the best goalies in history and many fans have turned their backs at him and he hasn't even ruined games the way Valdes did with his ocasional brainfarts(especially in crucial CLASICOS ffs). If anything Valdes has a stronf fanbase of cules that stick with him no matter what, any keeper on any other top club would have been destroyed by fans after some of the mistakes Valdes commited. Valdes is a great keeper, thanks to him for all the memories, especially the 06 CL final. Good luck on his next endeavor. Like somebody mentioned before, he was a great keeper for our system but there are certainly better keepers out there. Now Barca needs to do what any top club does in this kind of situations: spend big on a proven goalkeeper. Not commit the same mistakes of signing keepers with "good promise", or playing a canterano just for the sake of it. It's hard to be a goalkeeper in Barca if you are not up to the task, just a few could do it. Let's act like a big club and get the best keeper money from the club can pay
