1 - Victor Valdes

A key reason for Valdes wanting to continue for another year is the World Cup in 2014. Playing at smaller club could affect ESP spot. [md]

As if he has a chance of starting over Casillas.

You do realize that just being in the 23 players list is an honor for any player?
Casillas is no 1,but after him Lopez/VV/Reina/De Gea all has legit chance for the other 2 spots

Euhm... as Khaled said I hope you realize that there are still a few good goalkeepers who could easily take his spot on the bench right? No need to turn it into a joke.

What is all these Valdes hatred and Ter Stegen loves? I have a weird feeling that this preference is being echoed again and again so that many would come to believe that Ter Stegen is actually better than Valdes. The young lad is unproven. And what quality does he have that our VV doesn't? Response? Skills? Abilities to jump high? 1 on 1 or penalties savers - Hello?? It's not like playing Football Manager. You are all talking about potentials here. What if he had troubles with confidence and communication with the defenders? It takes time for newcomers to get integrated, and what if he never make it?
Try to "cash in" from sale of VV? You do realize that we would have to "cash out", the same amount or more, for another decent keeper, right? So where is the financial benefit then?
How many of you so-called fans would find it so easily to disregard one of Barca legends, one who has widely accepted as the most successful keeper in thee club history, and put your faith on pretty much any other goalie out there, is beyond me.

I am not here to argue that Stegan is better or anything ,but VV himself was unproven when he was promoted, a 21 years old GK who only played in 3rd division with Barca B ,you can argue that Stegan is way more proven than VV in 2003 ,hell Rustu was more proven than Valdes in 2003 ,that said Valdes showed potential and it paid out . you can't always disregard potential for proven players ,sometimes you need to take the risk
Also the financial benefit is that we get the money to buy a new GK , it doesn't take from our limited transfer budget as it is gonna do next year (unless we are going for Akinfeev who will be FA too next year)

I don't disregard potential either. Just that you are talking about VV as if he is the broken link in the system that needed to be replaced desperately. It's rather the opposite - that part is WORKING FINE, so why the urgency to jinx it? Should all be worked up for some petty $$, and we also need to spend to replace him anyway? For all I know the cost of replacement could be as low as the $$ we pay for TS, or we are risking the whole first half of the season til Jan when RM is miles ahead already. I say we keep VV and buy TS anyway (next Jan maybe), and focus on buying CBs, which should be our main concern atm.

IMO if Valdes is willing to stay another year, we should save any money we could spend on a GK and go for the best CB that our finances will allow us to buy.

That way, we can use a larger % of next year's budget on the GK situation.

I know that that means VV walks for free next season, but finances are the thing to be considered. We might be able to sell him for Euro10million, and add Euro10million to that to buy a GK; that means that we have less to spend on what we REALLY need - a class CB.

Valdes has been great for us and I would love nothing more than to see him sign a new deal and stay for the rest of his career.

This is not going to happen though so it would be best, in my opinion, if we sold him and got some money for him to put towards a replacement.

Others will leave too so we should have enough left over to get in a quality CB

You almost had the perfect post, then that. We'll have to pay for a new keeper anyway, if we could have gotten 10m for him now and replaced him a season earlier then by all means I'd be for that, instead he's leaving us on a free, forcing us to take a bigger loss on replacing him.

If he left now, we'd get 10m + a new keeper for maybe 15m (-5m in the end), because he won't leave now we lose that 10m.

I say sell him and buy a new GK, but only after we get a CB. Focus on the CB first. If we have 5-10M left after that, sell Valdes for 10 and buy a new GK (ter Stegen's my choice) for 15-20.

I agree. As much as I'm against him staying now, it is in the best interest of the club to keep him for another year, save that money and invest it in areas that need funds THIS year. Theoretically, if we don't buy a GK this year, then we could possibly afford Thiago Silva now and someone like DeGea next summer. Instead of buying two inferior players at the same time.

That part is where my opinion varies, and like what Onoma...said, atm we should focus our budget on CB position. Put it simple like that, when we need to pay our immediate debts (i.e. Buying CBs), we can't afford to spend largely for a risky investment, however profitable it promises. I think our management'd see it the same way and happy to let go that possible $10m for some insurance. Besides, VV has been our GK for 10 years, contributed to the team as much as anyone in our most glorious period in the history. The guy is a f***ing legend. I think he deserves better than being cashed for some $mil. I'd be happy to see him serves his last year and freely chooses his next club, something that even Henry was allowed

Valdes: "I'll have been Barcelona's goalkeeper for 12 years, and at Barça each year counts for two. Psychologically, it's exhausting" [pais]

He does have a point but I would prefer if he would leave this summer so we can get some money on him. For me it seems than he doesn't necessarily want to stay till the end of his contract just for the love of Barcelona but because he doesn't have good offers this summer , so he prefers to go for free.

Yeah,so if its exhausting why doesnt he leave already, thinking if hes stays and it will be his last season in barcelona,he wont be so much concentrated
