Van Nistelrooy's record is 44 goals with ManU in the season 2002-03. It seems difficult to find the record for european leagues.. but maybe in a minor league someone scored 100 goals (?). Anyhow.. Ferenc Puskas has the record when it comes to a player in the spanish league: 52 goals.. in the 59-60 season.

One simply cannot compare the Hungarian or the Scottish leagues in ages past (when teams played with 2-3-5 formations, on an amateur basis) with La Liga of today (close 2nd league in Europe) plus the CL of today (with the teams competing there sporting multi-million euro budgets)

In plain English, Lionel Messi is the best player to have ever kicked a spherical object on a green rectangular surface.

Scoring against Madrid will be very difficult though, they seem to be Messi obsessed, they won't let him breathe. I hope Eto'o doesn't score tonight, he's the only serious threat for Messi right now.
