He can't be brilliant every game. He was ok today, scored 2 goals and helped the team. He was poor against espanyol.

I wouldn't worry about his recent form. Yes, he was not as good as we expected him to be, but most likely, he's saving it for Marid. Can't wait to see him celebrating his goals against Real Madrid. Casillas's face will be a sight to see

But he's right. Leo has lost some of his agility. He seems much more slower, doesn't run so often. Sometimes just walks around the pitch.

He has ALWAYS been like that since he started playing in the middle. Most of the time he's just trotting upfront, doing nothing of worth for large spells and suddenly creating magic that wins us games. It's just becoming more apparent now that we're playing shit overall with the 3-4-3 and not controlling the midfield as much as last season. Arsene Wenger described Messi as someone who is "often not [involved] in the game" when we beat Arsenal 4-1 back in 2010. That's really nothing new. Some even say it's instructions from Pep to prevent injuries (his injuries stopped since he was moved from the wing where he had to run all the time to the centre of the pitch where he pretty much only runs to press the goal keeper, leaving the dirt work to Villa and Pedro).

And no, he hasn't lost his ability to dribble. In fact, he's as good as never before in it:

Walking around = tactical choice or lazyness or lack of motivation. Not lack of agility. When he started to run in the later minutes he dribbled some players again. He just needs to focus and be professional, make the efforts we expect from him. He is still the same Messi, Pep just needs to kick his ass

He isn't just saving it from RM, this year it's different. He seems less motivated. Maybe it's just me and he proves me wrong on wednesday.

Its not that he's less motivated. Its just that he's raised the bar so high, everyone expects magic from him in every single game.

He played okay, people think if he doesn't dribble past 4 defenders while walking on his hands and scores a goal he has a shit game.

Not saying it was a good performance but it was decent, definitely not shit; did some slick passes and some nice runs. He was the one who got us the red card.

People really have too high expectations on this brilliant man.

And people who thinks he all of a sudden lost pace and agility, just.... speechless.

I call knee-jerk.

Yes, he wasn't at his best tonight, but then again, you can't expect him to mesmerize your spoiled asses every freakin' game. As good and amazing Messi is, he still has his off days.

And even on his off day he still manages to bag a few.

Messi is just tired..it's seems some of you think Messi is some kind of God who never plays bad. Watch the Hercules game from last year(the away one) and you will see that Messi was just as shit, only that he scored 2 goals and nobody remembers.

Not sure where you got that from. I'm not talking about his goal scoring really. I was replying to the "Where's the old Messi from 09/10" comment.

It's about his agility. If you haven't noticed yet he has lost some of it; it's been clear since the preseason clasicos. By bulking up, he's traded some of his agility for the upper body strength. That's why most small agile and technical players who are bullied off the ball easily rarely bulk up. And that's why Cristiano's dribbling has gone shit.

Bojan is a perfect example of this. His problem is that he gets bullied by physical defenders. The solution is so obvious but he doesn't do it because he will lose the most important part of his game - quick feet and pace over 5 yards.

Messi still can beat 2-3 players easily, but 4-5 defenders like he's done sometimes? Don't think so.

We should sell Messi and buy Neymar. Messi isn't capable anymore to score a goal like the one for which Neymar won the Puskas Award.
Oh..wait..
