As for the voting, the UEFA award is voted by one chosen journalist per UEFA country. At the Ballon D'or, there are three votes per Fifa country, coming from coach, captain and one chosen journalist. Whether the same journalist votes for UEFA and Ballon d'or I don't know, but that wouldn't matter too much I believe. All I know is, the one representing Germany is one of the best football journalists there are, and he wouldn't really let overindulging Messi influence his choice (which has always been Messi, mind you).

Who is this guy, out of curiosity?

Football is a team game, ask Bayern Munich. Barcelona were far better until everything has to flow through Leo Messi, he's apart of one of the greatest teams ever, holding a ridiculous amount of possesion consistently every game without fail, to allow him to do his thing, with all the freedom in the world, everything the past two seasons has to flow through him, i personally can't stand teams built around a forward. Barcelona are filled with Spanish internationals who shouldn't need Messi to bail them out of anything, it's just poor. Nor should they need him to get past what was a pretty poor Milan side & a PSG side that played terrible for most of the season. Unecessary.

But the comments that "Messi carried the team" "Zlatan carries the team" etc etc is horseshit, they both force the play through them, demand the ball.

Messi is the best player we have, so why not utilizing him? I don't think our dependence on Messi is based in him "demanding the ball", rather it is based on the belief/common sense that "if we pass the ball to Messi, the chances of something happening are generally greater".

Spain certainly was not poor, but did you notice that they had a hard time scoring goals? How many Spain games have ended with 1:0 or 2:0?

That said, I do agree Messidependencia must end. We need to figure out how to win games without Messi. Neymar provides a beacon of hope.

The criteria for this award, its not just cl, cause bale is nominated.
If you want to give credit to a quality player of the best team then its Ribery, best individually would be Messi, Cr is there cause of his cl importance and 50 something goals. That doesnt overshadow Leo so its him or Ribery imo.

Nice troll attempt, but let me put this as simple as possible. We've become messi dependant because our forwards/wingers cant score, our midfield is completely lost and cant break any defense when he doesnt play ( against superior teams ), and because he has single handedly bailed us out when the aforementioned has happened. Without messi, last season wouldve been a disaster, and without messi this team isnt a top 3 club in the world ( bayern, madrid, dortmund all ahead)

This award is a lot less important than the ballon dor so I have no problem if a Bayern player gets it.

The ballon dor will go to Messi 100%.

Haters can keep hating.

Ode to Django - I see you points, however there is not question Messi has been the difference maker for this team and has only been more pronounced and apparent these last 2 years. It is no coincidence that the over reliance and dependence on Messi has coincided with the decline and dip in form of key members in the squad. With them doing less, Messi has had to do more.

It is a matter of fact that Messi's individual talent has bailed Barcelona out of plenty of tough matches these past two years more than others.

It is also a matter of fact that every time talented opponents have attempted to neutralize Messi, be it by gameplan or sheer numbers, Barcelona have been utterly unable to have someone else step up.

Barcelona has not lost edge because they've resorted to running everything through Messi. The team as a whole has declined and lost its edge and have therefore been force to look increasingly more towards Messi to give them back the edge.
