Thanks guys. Does the result of this UEFA Best Player Award have any effect on the Ballon D'Or? I mean, is it possible that for example, Ribery might be picked as the winner for the UEFA Best Player Award as a conciliatory/consolation award for losing out the Ballon D'Or?

Sorry if this sounds like crazy.

I agree with Suckabov. I mean, what has Ribery done? Do the stats justify him being up there? Are they simply saying he is the best Bayern player?

ribery will win this, as bayern won the ucl. This award takes the CL in consideration, or other uefa tourneys. Iniesta won last year for having a brilliant eurocopa.

I see. But why Ribery, not Schweinsteiger or Müller? How were the "points" given?

Well, I find it hard to distinguish between him and Schweinsteiger, or any of the Bayern players for that matter. I think I remember that statistically, Müller was equal to Ribery, goal and assistwise? Imo, Schweinsteiger was the best Bayern player, or at least the most important one, but oh well.

For me, Messi is the deserved winner, treble or not. Bayern's success was thanks to great teamwork, great tactics and a great coach, not thanks to Ribery. At least not solely, and at least not to such extent that Schweinsteiger or (in my eyes) Lahm wouldn't equally deserve it, which they do. Messi, on top of being the best player, has really carried barca the last season and was crucial to them winning the Liga, and advancing to the cl finals. That's why for me, there is only one winner.
But I don't really care too much, as long as Messi gets the Ballon d'Or, I'm okay with someone else winning it (though not Ronaldo, preferably).

Well, it depends on the individual preference of the journalists voting. There is no predefined criteria. That's why some people (haters) argue that Messi fares better than Ronaldo because he's more likeable.

That would be true if there was predefined criteria, which there isn't. CL is an advantage, but basically, everyone can vote for whom they like best. And it might even be that Ribery doesn't get as many votes thanks to his bad reputation, being on trial etc. Those things might count.

This award takes consideration every national and international competition in Europe.

Messi was far beyond Ribery individually. Carried Barcelona to Spanish league win Maradona Napoli style, scored 21 consecutive games breaking 75 year old world record, and had the most dominant European Golden Shoe win ever, with 12 goals difference to second one and carried Barcelona to UCL semis being unfit 1 week in hamstring injury.

Top 3 should be

1. Messi with two legs
2. Messi with one leg
3. Ribery

Yes he carried those terrible, utterly useless Spanish internationals to win a completely unbalanced league. How on earth did he manage it with such fodder teammates, unbelievable when you think about it.

2) one legged Messi hehe huhu

The journalists are obviously free to vote, but the award is for the best player on europe the past season(ucl) mostly. Some tend to favor players from the ucl winner. If it wasn't an euro year, I don't think Iniesta would'd won last year.

Yeah, Messi has now carried Barcelona 2 seasons, like Maradona once did in Napoli (89-90).

So this UEFA Best Player Award is just like the Ballon D'Or, without clear criteria being laid out? So it is all subjective? OK, in that case I can see how in the eyes of the voting audiences Ribery might fare better than Schweinsteiger because the former is much flashier than the latter, Ribery scored more sensational goals than Bastian even though I agree that Bastian is more important to Bayern's success.

By the way, will the same journalists, coaches etc. voting for this UEFA Best Player Award be the ones voting for Ballon D'Or? If so I'd rather this goes to Ribery so they don't feel like they are overindulging our Leo.

Meh. Our other players are far better than Maradona had in Napoli. Also Serie A was easily the best league in the world at that time and very competitive.
