He's not just any type of player. At the end of his career he will go down at the best ever. The only thing that stops him to be considered like that is a WC. How could it cause problems for the rest of the squad ? Do you think players like Adriano ,Alba , Alexis , etc will ask for a raise or be pissed at Messi because he wants more money ? Players in the team know their role , know that Messi is superior to them and couldn't give a damn if he gets a raise or not. The only thing that could be a disaster in this scenario is Messi starting to realise the insane power he has at the club and start being like the owner of it , which he isn't the type of doing that.

According to this, Messi has a base salary of about 16 million a year. Thats also the number i remember hearing in february this year when he signed his contract.

Honestly , I really think the squad doesn't give a damn if Messi has 12 or 20 M per year.

I doubt they care about him getting paid more than him but players wont like him making demands on the club and getting away with it. No matter how good he is getting treated that differently and Messi having that attitude would upset the other players.

How much better he is than the rest of them is irrevelant it is not the way to make a team with one player so obviously treated differently.

I was watching ESPN in Spanish the other, yesterday I think? and the anchors at the end of the show were showing clips of Neymars Top 10 goals, amazing goals might I add, and after the cameras zoomed in at them, 1 anchor said how Messi wanted more money according to some of their sources, but boy the way they said it, you could tell how badly they wanted to sell it to the viewers..

Then after that, the same guy said "Is Messi starting to feel jealous?" after that I wanted to punch him in the face....
