It also breaks the record of the difference between the first and second with 12 goals, as the second one was Cristiano Ronaldo with 34 goals. The old record of 11 goals happened in 76-77, between Georgescu with 47 goals and Varady with 36 goals. Which is unbelievable considering that Messi was injured or half fit the last 2 months of the season.

I don't understand why people mention stats or trophies when they talk about who deserves the Balon d'or. For me, its all about how they perform. And goals and assist is just a little part of that. I mean, if it was about stats then Zidane would have never won the trophy seeing as his stas were really poor for such a great player. And when it comes to performances, Messi beats C.Ronaldo pretty easily..
