apparently there are so many rumours about the plans of the current board and messi's reaction to that that you cannot tell who (those ominous insiders) is right and who is wrong. the transfer of lewandovski is an extreme counterexample to that, where things had been crystal clear one year before he joined bayern. heck, i don't even know how much we've paid for neymar in total.

If Bartomeu wants to run for presidency in 2016, than that's a pretty solid clue that Messi ain't going anywere. How can you expect to be elected by the socios if you sell Barcelona's best player in the club's history?

Messi is what takes people's minds from the board incompetence.

Well, it's different from league to league I guess. Maybe they're a bit more open about such things in Germany than England, Spain and Italy?

Besides......If you're transparent then you can't really or it gets difficult to..........swiss bank account......you get what I mean :bartomeu:

btw, i wasn't implying that all (ex) members of the bayern board are completely averse to swiss bank accounts.

I don't believe Messi was ever close of leaving Barcelona. Barcelona will never want to sell Messi as long as he's dominating football and teams don't afford him anyway. Not even Chelsea/PSG can pay 250m.
That's what I said before.

No one can pay 250M.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.
Then explain me how they would do it without being hit by the FFP :p

It's not as if abramovic can use his personal money to get the deal done. The FFP forbids that. You can only spend personal money on ground installations and youth centers.

No smart person can put that much money on a single asset, bussiness wise. You pay 250m transfer fee, 25m net per year to Messi for 5 years or so, that's around 450m taxes included, all tied to a single player. What if that player gets badly injured, or doesn't play that well? And why should a team buy Messi when they could buy 6-7 world class players and still have some money left?

And it's not like buying Messi assures you of anything. You can buy Messi and still be where you are now, with minor changes. Contrary to the opinion on barcaforum, Messi is human and has faults of his own. No player is worth 250m. Not Messi, not anyone. People say that sum and don't realise how insane it is.

Uncle Flo would happily pay that much. He'll get powerful people in the center to support him fully as well. Too bad for him Leo won't ever change Blaugrana for Franco's Whites.....

Nobody talked about moral aspects. It was simply about wether certain clubs would pay 250m for Messi or not and I'm sure that some would.

OK, the latest news I am reading says the Messi camp has come out to deny that they have ever spoken to Fabián Godoy, the Argentinian journalist who first alleged that Messi is mulling a transfer to Chelsea next year.

The Messi camp also stated that
• Messi does not feel he is being taken advantage of by the club
• Messi is not learning English
• Messi does not plan to leave Barca
• Chelsea did not approach Messi regarding a transfer
• Adidas is not behind all of this

Instalments mate. If Barca agreed a to receive 25m a year for 10 years etc. A team like PSG or City ould also get a ridiculous sponsorship through say ethiad ( for city ) and use this money to fund the trasnfer.

Assuming they would need to pay out 250m plus taxes and activate the buy out - you cant pay that in instalments.

250 M euros = 200 million pounds...

Chelsea could.. renegotiate with Adidas signing longer years for much higher pay on the basis of signing Messi.
Selling 3-4 players (they fetched about 140 m from sales of players in 2013).

They could afford it. But it'll never happen.

One doesn't need paying by installments to circumvent FFP - the key is duration of contract. When a player is purchased, his cost is capitalised on the balance sheet and is amortised over the length of his contract. Example: 250 mil € fee with a 5 year contract equals a 50 mil € amortisation charge per year - and that is completely detached from whether the fee is paid in full or not. The amount amortised each year needs to be counted as a 'cost' in the club's FFP Break-Even calculations, not the entire fee.
