Ronaldo could score a lot of goals in October and people would start licking his ass again like they did last 2 times.

True, people Judge them based on silverware won and how they are viewed at the moment of voting.
So september-early november thats when you have to be at your best, Ronaldo' know this thats why he performs much better at the start of seasons and puts a lot of energy in it.
Individual awards > team awards for him since he a narcisist who thinks ballon d'ors won makes him the greatest player ever,and just diggs the overall applause/praise.

If he performs well again in that period, pr caqmpaign will make him look like a god again and people will be like "yeah he maybe started badly for a moment but at this point its clear who should be named as the best player this year".

Look how Messi's 2014 was viewed compared to Ronaldo while their numbers were equal, he was the best Argentine player to lead them to a wc final, became all time cl topscrer before Ronaldo, all time la liga topscorer yet people think of him as a shadow of what he used to be with a terrible season compared to Ronaldo who single handed won la decima while it was due to Ramos saving them.
This is all thanks to the pr campaign.

Its also because of Ronaldo that the ballon d'or is viewed as a really important price. I remember it was always announced out of nowhere and people shrug their shoulders argue a little and move on about the subject, now its somehow the ultimate goal next to a cl or world cup win.
