I don't think so. I think he'll play the same way he does now, until he is 32 at least. It would be a waste of his talent to move further back, yeah sure, he might bump his assists, but Barca needs him in front of the goal. A 32 year old Messi would still be the best attacker in the world.

It's also worth nothing that he needs to keep taking penalties otherwise he loses 7-8 goals a season which would make 757 almost impossible. Having said that if he doesn't improve them he should hand them to Suarez or Neymar.

All I'm thinking is that he goes to a deeper role when he hits his 30's so his goals dry up where as Ronaldo in his 30's is becoming a number 9. I still think its possible if he players in Argentina or the MLS or wherever until he is 40, basically if he does what Romario did.

He really needs to hit big numbers during the rest of his prime years, last years 41 goals was a let down and a good 20 short of what he should have hit. This season he really needs 60 or so goals if he is to ever reach 757, not that he gives a shit about these records :p

He has 395 goals now for Barca.
There are 14-19 games left this season, so lets say he scores 15 more= 410

If he averages 55 goals a season for the next 3 years, he will be at 575 when he is 31. Say he moves back/slows down starts scoring less then.
He is also at 45 right now for Argentina, say he scores 30 more with Argentina before he retires(realistic imo) = 650
Which means he needs 108 goals (97 when you count his lower division goals) in like 4-8 seasons, depending on how long he wants to keep on playing.
Meaning its definitely possible for him to catch Pele's number.

Wont help much in the end though, people who consider Pele the goat would always continue to bring up 3 wc's even if he won the next one with Argentina.

If Messi stays injury free and will give a fuck for the next 5-6 seasons (until he is 33), then he will break his record by then. It gives me the chills even thinking about it.

Can you guys actually believe how lucky we are? Watching him play every week!

I'd rather he scores less but the team becomes balanced and win titles like 2008/9 and 2010/11
Strangely the years when teams win big titles n trebles they have their goals fairly divided amongst scorers.
Anyways if he can reach those milestones and yet we win trebles no problem for me :D

*If some of the numbers seem a bit off, it is because of rounding :)
