Is it me or he has got rid off some muscle kilos, I remember him being quite strong and muscular in the start of the season, but he looks pacy and thinner in these pictures

Not a bad thing. Ronaldinho put on alot of muscles one season, but that also made him slower and heavier and not as good, when he lost some of it, he became much better again.

Its the same with Messi, many, including myself, have complained a bit on his pace and tbh he has looked a tad overweight (Last season). But on the latest pictures he looks very slim which might increase his pace again.

Looking good. Fit and ready. 2014 will be his year again.
Very happy to see him match fit again.
By the way the city that I'm in is now _20°C but Argentina looks hot.
Without getting off topic. IMO he should play against Elche and Getafe for half an hour at least.
And he has decreased some of his muscles. And it could be good giving him more velocity. And can help him
do his job more efficiently.

People in this thread have no clue what they are talking about, lol at muscle mass decreasing speed... potato logic.

Any kind of discussion about him losing or gaining muscle mass in this particular situation is nonsense... There are so many things that influence the way someone's body looks at a particular moment, especially on a particular photo. It would be impossible to define any subtle difference based on looking vacation pics vs. training pics.

being heavier (more muscular) certainly takes your burst of speed in first 5-10 meters and thats what many people probably noticed, its not bad as it made messi much more stronger but maybe returning back to having his explosiveness will give him some advantage once again, lets see

Several clubs have sounded out Barcelona forward Lionel Messi (26) in the past days. The Argentine player has rejected all offers. [md]

Not surprising, but still. :worthy::wub:

That field looks like a potato. I guess practice on worse conditions, then you can only improve on better conditions?

Can you elaborate
As long as the weight added on to the body is muscle, not fat, in theory you shouldn't be noticeably slower. Any muscle added to the legs certainly shouldn't make you slower.

Case in point, the top three finishers of the 100m dash in the last Olympics:

Note: these are sprinters. They're more explosive in short distances, very similar to how Messi seems to "walk" around for most of the game then out of nowhere burst into a sprint. Long distance runners are incredibly skinny, but they're always running for incredible distances.

Every person's body is unique, but it's ludicrous to say that putting on muscle is a bad thing in general.
