I have to agree with this. He pressed under Pep and presses now under Sabella, and didn't press under Tito or Tata. Coincidence? I think not. He presses when the coach instructs him to.

Is he really pressing under Sabella now? The game against Romania he didn't, I think. Not that he wasn't hungry, he was very good that game.

I was at the Romania game. He didn't press. I was watching only him 80% of the game , couldn't care less what was others were doing on the field.

Thanks for confirming, Catalinutz, I knew you were there.

Ronaldo to score a hattrick every game in the WC to get the golden boot. :peace:

The pressing and work rate that you saw him doing for Argentina in that video is from 2011, when he was a different player. He doesn't do any pressing for Argentina either nowadays.

First Liga Classico 2-1 Barca where Messi played in RW. He did indeed played a very selfless role in that game giving the team a lot of hard work. Which actually is a merit to Messi, but an incredibly stupid thing to make the best player on the field, play a secondary sacrifice role.

More of the stupid that was this season.

Messi's play this season was mostly conditioned by the team and the coach. This season he was pretty much reduced to a role player, instead of the team focus. He played mostly as a pure CF, except that precise game where he was moved to RW, but still on a role player capacity.

Here look at this short video of Messi vs Madrid in the Copa del Rey final. Messi is clearly involved, but his role was totally shifted to a pure CF that is a monumental waste of his talents. No wonder he got faced out of games and was lacking in motivation. Watch that video and tell me you wouldn't feel down if you were Messi.

Look at that travesty. Messi always far away from the ball. Not involved int he build-up by design. Making pure CF moves only. Fucking reduced the best player in the world into a 5 foot 7 Llorente.

Nothing new about Messi becoming more of a pure striker. It happened under Tito, it happened even more under Tata. I don't remember where, but I compared his passes, touches, basic involvement in the game and they all went down since Pep's departure.

Yeah his passes per game are down to 45ppg... under Pepe at times he was making 60-70 passes per game. He's the Barca player I am least worried about as some small adjustments should see him back to his best.

Messi: I am my own biggest critic

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has insisted he is not bothered by criticism as he is his own harshest judge.

Messi has spoken to ESPN with his comments reported by AS. The Argentina international was asked about the World Cup, the season just finished, and how he has changed in the past four years.

“Since the World Cup in South Africa I’ve grown a lot in football and personally,” Messi revealed.

“I’m a father. That’s a big responsibility and it changes things. Now it’s my son and then everything else.

“When everything bad is happening it’s a joy to come home and see him.”

Messi was the focus of criticism last season as Barca at times struggled, ending the campaign without a trophy.

But Messi says criticism from outside only spurs him on - and that no one criticises his game as much as he does himself.

“My desire is to excel and always want more. I am my No.1 critic and I do things right and wrong.

“All that matters is playing football, and has done since I was very young.

“I always said that when it’s not entertaining and I’m not having a good time, I’ll leave. That’s all that interests me.”

Messi was dethroned last year as the world’s best player when Cristiano Ronaldo claimed the Ballon d’Or. Asked for his opinions on who the best players in the world are, Messi pointed to the Portuguese and named a host of other candidates.

“There are a lot of good players in the world: Neymar, Xavi, Iniesta, Cristiano, Ribery, Robben…I could say a lot more, but it’s the fans who choose who is the best,” Messi said.

“[If Argentina win the World Cup] I would be a world champion but not the best in the world.

“No. Argentina would be the best team in the world and I get to add another competition to my resume as well.”

Two things struck me from his interview:

(1) Messi emphasizing the importance of being a father over playing football and (2) his humbleness by not considering himself the best even if Argentina wins the WC, perhaps indicating he think he has room for improvement?

If you have have been following Messi for even a year then you would know he is always humble in interviews. He could be a 10 time Ballon Dor winner and he still won't say he's the best.

About number 2, even if he is the best player that ever have graced a pitch he was not the best player this year, and a WC win wouldent change that. On the other side even if he never wins a WC he will still be the best player the World has seen when he was at his best.
