Sabella expected both Dzeko and Ibisevic to start , that's why he went with 3 CBs.

However, Susic opted for more control in midfield and brought an additional CM. By doing this, he clogged up the middle of the pitch, decreasing space for Di Maria and Messi to dribble into and turned Argentina into a broken team. By halftime, Sabella introduced Gago to increase Argentina's presence in the middle of the pitch and his team immediately looked better.

The lacking cohesion between the defensive block and the offensive players will once again cost Argentina the title. Unfortunately, other than Gago there is basically no player in the squad to provide it.

Even though , it was a better second half performance. Overall, by Messi high standards, this was an overall average performance by him but you can see he has an incredible amount of pressure on him as well. I think he will beast from this point on as his opponents in the next two games aren't that tough. He'll probably bag a few and that will add to his confidence.

I have a question to all those who went nuts after first half, do you act like that in real life as well? Lets say you go to shop, you want to buy a specific brand of alcohol, but its sold out. You totally freak out and trash the store because of that. Instead of thinking and actually noticing that store next to it sells it as well? What is it with the premature ejaculation guys? Learn to control you emotions and speak when its time to speak.
Messis first half was not great, but making conclusions that he is finished and he should be sold and he will never be good again are just ridiculous. Second half he was shining and looked really good. My money is for Argentina to win WC, once they get over initial stress, they just have most talented squad available and even goalkeeper did some good saves.

There was a shitload of Madridista's/CR7 fans on the internet purely bashing Messi the whole game until the goal after which they all vansihed. Or ironically saying a player playing badly but still scoring is not a great player. Its so annoying how club preferences turn into bias/hatred for the world cup, I wish people could let it go for one month a year. Its the ame with other countries as well.

Agreed, the people who bash Messi are missing out on enjoying one of the best footballers to ever play the game. He's our generations Pele and many people are missing out on the enjoyment because of club preferences. At least for the World cup they should put aside their allegiances... I'm actually going to watch Ronaldo tonight without my Barca tinted glasses.
