One thing I noticed and that is noteworthy taking the recent statements from Messi into consideration, is that the background of www.fcbarcelona.com is a picture of Neymar to the left and Suarez to the right looking like two pillars. When you have the best player in the world (and all time) on your team who also have one of the most recognizable faces in the world, why wouldn't he even appear on your teams webpage background at all as one of the figureheads of Barca?

It may just be complete coincidence, but it seems very odd, especially if we're talking about the idea of this board slowly pushing Messi out of Barca in more or less direct ways.
Not long ago it was Messi and Iniesta. They change the players pictures there often.

I know they do change, but it's not that often is it? I'm not sure it's just a coincidence that it changed right after these statements, which the club has yet to respond to by the way, and that it changed to a picture of Ney and Suarez, who are the two marquee signings of this board.

Just pisses me off for some reason. Had stuff been great at Barca I wouldn't have cared, but given the situation I have a feeling it's intentional.

I remember seeing those two before the comments were put out. Wouldn't read to much into it TBH

I don't feel he is 'carrying' the team. Certainly didn't look that way against Almeria.

And he could have double the goals he has got had he taken his chances.

I want him to stay, but it's not like we can't live without him. This isn't 2011.
you always speak in a negative tone when it comes to Messi why is that?

MD reported bartomeu called Jorge Messi and met with him, to make sure Leo is happy, and everything is fine. And I don't think it's intentional, they change it from time to time. I hardly doubt the players check the website either.

Mascherano: Lionel Messi is very happy playing in Barcelona
by Jen Evelyn | Posted on Thursday, November 20th, 2014

Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano spoke in a press conference today and was questioned about the current situation of compatriot Leo Messi, as well as the progress made by Barcelona under new coach Luis Enrique.

Mascherano was asked about the future of Leo Messi, who recently stated that although he’d like to stay in Barcelona until the end of his career, it’s impossible to know what will happen in the future. Mascherano dismissed the speculation over his countryman’s possible departure.
“It’s impossible to discredit one of the best players in history. Leo’s behavior has always been exemplary. You can’t doubt him.”

“I’m not here to talk about Leo. I don’t think he has said anything odd. He said what all footballers think. In football – or in life – you can’t map out what will happen in six or seven years, because you don’t know. Messi is very happy playing here. I haven’t seen any interview in which he’s said otherwise. He’s doing well and wants to continue winning in Barcelona.”

“Where have you read that he has problems with Barcelona? I haven’t read it. He hasn’t said it. I’ve always heard him express his gratitude to Barca.”
Both Messi and Mascherano recently returned from international duty with Argentina, and Mascherano was asked about the situation of the national team, and comparisons between former Barcelona manager Tata Martino and Luis Enrique.

“In the national team, Messi was questioned unfairly. And it’s a battle he’s won. He’s not unhappy with Argentina nor with Barcelona. I think Messi is in a good moment, not only in his career, but in his life.”

“Comparisons between Tata and Luis Enrique? Whoever is on the outside is always better. No one will change that.”

Mascherano was then asked about defenders Gerard Piqué and Thomas Vermaelen, who has yet to play for Barcelona.
“Thomas is a great player, I played against him many times in England. He’s doing well and hopefully he can help us soon.”

“Piqué? To me, he’s a fantastic player. Whether he plays or not is a decision made by the coach and I shouldn’t speculate.”
Mascherano then went on to admit that Barcelona have to improve, and stated that the side must do everything it can to return to its best level.
“The doubts came after the defeats. It was important to win in Holland (against Ajax) and against Almería. But only winning isn’t enough here.”

“If we can’t achieve the excellence of the past years, we have to fight to be as close to it as possible. It was a glorious epoch. This club is over a hundred years old and that was the best era. It’s not the time to look for excuses, in my life I always try to be better every day. Our obligation is to try to find our best version, that’s what we’re here for.”

“We know we have to improve. If we’re not prepared for what is to come, it will be difficult.”
Turning focus on the upcoming matches, Mascherano stressed the importance of the remainder of the year, and praised Barcelona’s next opponent Sevilla.

“We have an important month ahead, during which we’ll play in three competitions. We want to win everything, in the league, in the Champions League and in the Cup. We want to end the year with the best possible feeling.”

“Our objective is to win all of the matches before the Christmas break. Sevilla? They haven’t surprised me. Last year they already proved themselves by winning the Europa League.”

He's the spiritual successor of puyol imo, he's the only leader on the field aside from xavi since iniesta is more of a do as i do kind of role model.

I certainly feel he is carrying us as our midfield is weak and at times he is acting as out sole playmaker. He's not carrying us in the goal sense but he is in the creative sense. Imagine not having him right now, who would pick up the slack? Iniesta is a shadow of himself, Rakitic is on defensive duty, Xavi's legs are gone...

We would all be asking for Cesc back if Messi left.

Cmon man we all know there are ways around FFP.

The only way around is if you have a huge revenue, Messi is the only player you buy within 3 years, or you sell some star players, or (usually) a combination of these things. Buying a player for 200m and more requires a huge sacrifice on one of these fronts, which means it's a huge risk; a risk almost no club is willing to take.

Of course you could also try to "trick" your way around FFP but UEFA look like they're serious about it, so I wouldn't count on it working, which means that's also a big risk.

Right now he is essential, but, were you to sell him, it would be on the basis that you buy 2 top class replacements. You can't take him out of the team as it is now and point to its weaknesses as obviously the capital from his sale would be reinvested.

I am just saying that, were we to do that, I don't think it would a catastrophe in sporting terms right now. Neymar is getting more goals at the moment and Suarez will pick them up eventually.

I don't, however, at present, advocate his sale.

Taking Messi out of the team would be a complete disaster, are you not watching the matches and seeing how insanely much he creates? He is basically filling two positions at once for us now, creative midfielder and striker - if we were to remove his assists and chances created, not to mention all the rabbits he pulls out of the hat himself, we'd be much worse off this season than we already are. He is the MAIN reason Barca is still considered a somewhat feared opponent to meet in the CL, and one of the main draws to our team from neutral viewers around the world, and is responsible for an insane amount of revenue. Also, I would never trust Zubi with that much money to rebuild our team with the money from his transfer.

But wait a minute, why am I even bothering, the whole notion of selling Messi is so insanely silly that it's no point perpetuating the discussion here.
