He did his best to rally the team even though he couldn't play. And he gave full credit to his teammates and coaches for the win. I think he has matured as a person and that is good to see.
Are we talking about a guy who starts pretending to be the coach after Eder's goal just to be in the media reports all over the world. Majority of what this guy does is for the media. His ego couldn't handle that they played 100 minutes without him and managed to win in the end, so he had to show himself because he knows anything he does will end up on the front pages.
The day after, no one talked about Rui Patricio, Pepe, Nani, Eder, or great team performance but the story of a day was whether Ronaldo was going to be good manager. Guy even had to call a stretcher just to be in extreme center of attention, even though he was able to walk and jump around.
it goes way too far saying he was non-existant. Ronaldo definitely had a fair share of contribution in Portugals route to the final, he was involved in almost alll their goals. If he wasn't Ronaldo, people would have acknowledged that he had a good tournament, just not "outstanding"
If he wasn't Ronaldo his tournament would be remembered as will be the one of Nani or Giroud.
