Brazilians supporting Argentina? WTF!? :amazed:

I thought they hated each other!? :bash: :bruise:

Have I stepped in to the Twilight Zone?

More common than you think... It's easy to see people wearing their jersey here.

I hope he does well at the Copa, at least individually to dispel the myth that he can only thrive with us, not at the NT (yes, there are still people believing that).

That's basically the argument of half the pages of this thread, always the same one, again and again.

People are even refuting he got Argentina out of the group stage when he scored all their goals as you can see, had he won the WC and not scored in the final people will say Higuain or whoever scored won Argentina the WC, any straw is good to use and that's just how it's gonna always be.

GOAT is an easy short term to use, you can choose to not take it literrally if you want, I personally think he is, for others it means he's the best of his era, but we can all agree it at least refers to the goat-bracket in which are Pelé and Maradonna.

You got it mate!

1. Messi in WC 2014 was THE ONLY reason Argentina reached the final game and Messi was literally inches away from scoring for Argentina to end this pathetic endless debate. WC = 7 games = eternal glory. Is it justice to judge Messi by that trophy? well he did reach the final and lost in overtime.

2. Messi is the greatest of his time so is Maradona and so is Pele. Those three belong to the GOAT category and NO ONE else. Many great players come and go but those three are out of this world. THE END!

Are you sure they're not just ex-pats? :D

I was surprised too but during the world cup I saw a vid of huge lines of brazilians waiting to see Argentina's training and see/meet Messi, many interviewed looked like genuine Messi fans, had his shirt, called him the best ever, etc..

I'm also surprised now to see many of our fellow forum members from Brazil cheering for Argentina because of Messi.

I really hope he wins this, DiMaria and Kun being fit are also a huge + !

I see you guys talking about the interview but no one posted it, post it pls.

"Copa America is very important for Argentina, which we haven't achieved for many years, it is a very important tournament for us.

Argentina is a candidate to win the Copa America, but we have to prove it on the pitch, There are very strong rivals and it will not be easy. I feel very happy to be back with the team, it is a great team and we get along very well. "

I think I am in a better form than last World Cup. The whole team is in better form. Last year we had injured players arriving at World Cup injured and some injuries during the tournament. We are better now.

I feel more mature to face this Copa America, with more experience, and I am very happy personally. Whether I am at my best, I feel great, I'm happy when I go to the pitch and work out.

I talked about traveling to the Copa with Tevez at the final. I never had problems with Carlitos I get on very well with him.".

It is a challenge because we haven't won anything, but it is a dream too. We deserve it as a team. The team deserves to win a trophy.

No matter who scores the goals. I, Kun, or Tevez or Angel. What matters is that we make goals and win.

I spoke to Neymar about the Copa America but after the Champions League final, everyone's on their own.

Mascherano and I didn't talk, we spent the entire trip sleeping.

I've learnt to be a dad. Thiago will be 3 years old.

It's much better to be a father than to dribble past an opponent."

That's mildly disconcerting. Does that mean that Leo doesn't possess the same love for the game that he once had?

Do you guys think that quote is anything to be concerned about? Why make that comparison otherwise?

That's a perfect subject for Chiringuito :D

Idk if you're serious, if you are, of course not, he already said many time that his son & family come before football or anything else.

Not sure what he originally said in Spanish, another version that I have seen is "It’s much more beautiful to be a father than it is to beat a rival.". Either way, I think he made those comments when he was asked about his family and fatherhood, nothing to worry about. He was just emphasizing on how Thiago has changed his life, I think.

Yes, and that should be the case with any proper parent. But why make the comparison to begin with?

I am not suggesting Leo should love football more than his son, but he can still have both. He doesn't have to make a distinction, since one doesn't affect the other.

Just one tiny observation: most of my fanatics friends like Argentina football school since older generations than Messi.

Calma, calma
Messi directly won two games for Argentina in the group stages so it's really not very far-fetched to presume he directly caused Argentina to win 2 of their 3 games. And friendlies after WC are usually bad for the winning team. Spain also got thrashed 4-1 by Argentina and Portugal I believe after they won in 2010.

Aren't you against hypotheticals? Without Messi, Argentina would presumely have played quite differently. Or maybe not. The truth is Argentina with or without Messi are favourites to top a group that had Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria. So you can't really say that without Messi, Argentina wouldn't have gotten out the group stage. What you can say though is that Messi was the biggest reason Argentina got out of the group stage, no one will deny that. He was even the best player on any team of the group stages.

6 Ballons for Messi

but what if he wins 7??

I spotted your mistake.
This is no truth, not a fact, just a hypothesis, the fact is that messi got argentina first and helped them reach the final more than anyone else.

Does anyone else think that Messi was actually better in 2010 World Cup than 2014? People seem to remember his 2010 campaign as being a failure because he didn't score a goal but he was way more involved in everything going forward and was just unlucky with his finishes. If only they had a real coach back then.
