When he retires he will surely goes down as greatest of all time. But, not above Pele or Maradona sadly. He just needs to win more champions league and place himself above Cristiano.

If he's not above Pele or Maradona, then he's not the greatest of all time.

Looking to the future, Messi really needs a preseason with focus on his physical. Technically he's still the best, but his speed and stamina are limiting his technique.

Messi needs to understand that he's not young anymore, his physical abilities tend to decrease, not the opposite. We know he worked hard to have GOAT technical skills, but his body was helping him, with that outstanding speed and incredible agility. Now, his body is suffering the years of high competition and he needs to put extra effort to have his body in high level again. Also, he needs rest. He's 31. He needs to realize that and stop playing every little game.

He lost a bit of speed, needs to work on that, maybe lose some kg. His stamina wasn't a problem years ago, but now is becoming a huge liability, needs to work on that as well. In my opinion, is the best that he can do.

Apart from that, his teammates, both in Argentina and Barcelona needs to step up. Messi has his flaws and needs to work on that. But is worrying that Barca and Argentina were/are unable to realize his flaws over the last years and can't build a team to cover that. Both teams had Messi as their best player and both did the same: bring more responsibilities to Messi and let him solve the problems for him and his teammates.

Some of these comments are so stupid that I have to question if these are just trolls created accs here just to have a laugh.
Messi was great this tournament, every time he got the ball he did something, no need to try to feed some bs agenda that he wasn't playing good.
I just hope Messi this summer works with some coditioning coach, I can't watch him no more cover 5km per match, it just doesn't work like that, he's not 45, surely he should be capable of covering at least 9km.

Messi is clearly the player of his generation, very few people seriously consider Ronaldo in his class and when both retire Messi's genius will shine far brighter than Ronaldos. As for Pele and Maradona, Messi has the massive advantage of a decade of easily available footage of his career. Barely anyone alive has watched Pele and Maradona didn't do it for as long as Messi has.

When he retires people will only remember the good bits.

I agree that the trolls are taking it too far but Messi was definitely not great this tournament. He was on the ball a lot today but didn't really do anything significant until the assist to Aguero after the match was already over

until the assist to Aguero. Because when he recieves the ball there is no one to pass the ball to. I dont see Di Maria, Pavon or hell even their left back making runs for him. He also needs people around him to move

He was not great but he wasn't bad either, he just wasn't effective. Part because of tactics part because of drop in stamina which is understandable as he is older now. Still i blame this defeat on the team setup, i feel like none of the players are to be blamed. They gave their all including messi, you can't just change your team formations every match and hope for the best. This is world cup for crying out loud. A proper game plan would have helped like 2014.

You should thank Uruguay, Leo. Saved your legacy. You might not be the GOAT for many, but never will Ronaldo either now.
