10 - Lionel Messi - v5

CR fans are some of most childish, deluded cult followers i've ever had the displeasure of 'debating' with. ironically its usually United fans who defend him to the death, I got ip permabanned from Redcafe because I didn't agree with their bs , most Madrid fans i talk with acknowledge Messi is the better player. Ronaldo scored a tap-in, Messi scored a goal that gets you out of your seat.

Ronaldo fanboys win if you even consider it a debate, its not. Messi is compared to Maradona, Cristiano is Gerd Muller on steroids

I sort of learned to appreciate those easy/tap-in goals from Ronaldo. I do love a golazo but at times does tap-ins are what you need when things get tough, the sort of goal we needed against Roma. I wish our midfield was good enough so that Messi wouldn’t feel the need to receive the ball in the middle of the pitch in order to get an attack going. The closer he plays to goal the better, I think.

Messi is compared to Maradona because everyone does around the world, fans, pundits even the great guy himself.

cr7 doesn't get compared to Maradona directly as it's deemed laughable in the world of football.

Yet gets compared to Messi but no fans even dare to compare him to Maradonna.

As to Messi's Clasico goal, a CR7 fan could claim that his idol would have scored easily with his right foot. Messi received the ball, then went to the left and had to get by Ramos and Casemiro before scoring with his magical left foot. It was a masterpiece, but wouldn't it have been easier for him if he had trusted his right foot?
I much prefer Messi over Ronaldo but must admit that Ronaldo's Clasico "tap-in" was quite well done. He initiated the pass to Kroos, ran toward the goal and then got what he wanted back from Benzema. Well planned and not easy to defend!
Messi was close to scoring 3:1 (with his right foot), but Navas made a great save.
Overall, a good Messi game that - with some luck and an ordinary GK - could have ended even better for him.
Navas saved two important draws for Real Madrid in one week. They should thank him.

every goal is important agreed but my comment was more about yesterdays Clasico than overall.

vs Roma? imo he'd of made no difference, possibly even worse than Messi since Cristiano relies on a functioning team to feed him and that night our team was anything but functional, EV screwed up big time.

when it comes to that 2nd leg vs Juve i will admit, Ronaldo would be my first pick of any penalty taker in history to take that pen, the guy is cold blooded.

agree we need to sort the midfield but Barto being the genius will probably spend our transfer budget on Griezmann

I am wondering how he is feeling right now.Knows that this is his last chance to get the WC(after 3 Final defeats),but also knows that there is a very very slim chance to do so.

Could he possibly play the world cup after? I mean he will be 35 which i guess isn't the end of the world. If he can maintain half his skill it'll be better than most of the Argentinian squad lol

Also i do think this is not his last shot at international trophy. There is still a couple of Copa America's to be played out too.

All that aside lets just hope Argentina gets themselves right before this WC.

I think he will quit the national team after this wc. If they win he will quit on a high if they crash out earlier (which is most likely) he will shoulder the blame again a d most likely be done with it. He has said many times its their last chance.

No way, he will still want to play at the 2022 Winter World Cup in Qatar, it will be a great experience for him as there hasn't been a Winter time world cup in the middle of the season. Also Messi will not be as tired after a long full season at the world cup as it will be in November/December

There was a moment in the first half when Messi stayed put upfront between the lines. Shit he should be doing in my opinion if the midfield wouldn't be crap in the build-up. There ware a solid 2 minutes the ball didn't even came close to him. Rakitic, Busquets and the others couldn't fucking get it over the half line, let alone in the last 30% of the pitch. So he had to drag his ass back to the half line so these bitches could advance 10 meters with the ball. Must be so fucking frustrating to constantly have to haul your ass between the mid and attack because both are useless without him.

And he gets criticized for being "lazy". He has to do the work of 2 or 3 players for the team to have any chance in attack. The other should kiss his feet because they have trophies this season because he was a one man attack for most of the season.

And the criticism for a lack of pressing is warranted up to a certain point. Granted, there are times when the ball is in his proximity and he just looks at it while being a passenger. However our whole fucking pressing mechanism is all over the place. Just headless chickens running forward towards the ball w/o looking behind to see if other players/lines are doing it as well. That's how both Rakitic and Busquets have been caught in no mans land countless times in the game. Time and time again Madrid had 30-40 meters of free space to do whatever the fuck they wanted because our defensive line was miles behind these 2 cats. Not to mention Suarez is one of the worst culprits of this. You hear how he harasses defenders and all that shit and while it works sometimes, sometimes it's just fucking pointless. He leaves his position to go on a lost cause while the defenders play cat and mouse with him and the midfielders now have ample space behind him to do whatever they want. Example from the game, there was Messi pressing a guy, what does Suarez do? He follows the same player Messi does, leaving 2 others Madrid players all alone. So with one simple pass their defenders bypassed both our attacking players. Awful, just awful.
