Bit of a random question but what do you all think Messi's best position is these days? If you were going to build a team around him, would you want him to be false 9, #10 behind a striker, right wing, or something else?

Free role, a combination of all of those positions + LW, with other players adjusting themselves according to his position.

I would say #10 behind a striker with permission to drift to the left or to the right. But it really depends on someone capable of feeding him with class play and key passes from behind - and right now we don't have the players to do that. Someone with the Arthur-profile could do that, but we will see if it is possible for them to build a connection, no guarantees from the profile alone.

Right wing, wet dream
Right wing is a wet dream yeah, but given wide forwards he’d **** teams as he’s displayed on numerous occasions this year in the False 9 role.

Right wing also introduces the defensive liability that is Messi so I’d rather they just not even attempt it.

I've never particularly liked Messi at right wing; it worked well when we had two of three next best players in the world alongside him up front and arguably the best attacking right back ever behind him, but I thought the system got exposed a bit once the individual quality around him started to fade. Valverde even started with Messi RW in the Super Cup this year but quickly abandoned it.

For me, False 9 is definitely his best position as we saw at the start of this season when he was averaging 1.5+ goals/game and completely dominating matches despite being surrounded by mostly average players

Will be fascinating to watch Leo and Barca play against Neymar with Real Madrid next season. Roberto or Semedo will have a big job marking Neymar

Don't worry. Neymar can't take Semedos physicality. We saw it even with Barca. Haha.

Roberto should never start as a RB vs tough team again.

I'd play with a 4 2 3 1 formation and have him as the CAM.

This I don’t get. We have people complaining about our lack of ball circulation and frailty when pressed but yet they want to play with 2 central midfielders because for some unknown reason Suárez must play as the “9” in a 4-2-3-1.

The only way we dominate midfield again is by reverting to a 4-3-3.

False nine with Dembele on his right, coutinho on his left

Arthur Rakitic and Busquets behind him

All those people keeping the ball and creating chances
For messi to score

But then we want to keep Suarez and add Griezmann, so there's no much hope
