Just checked the stats and he ran 8,7kms like a normal player.

Instead of being static like against Iceland and Croatia he actually made runs behind the defenders like Ronaldo and thanks to that he scored a goal.

I've no idea why he runs so little while it's clear his game would improve so much if he moves when not in possession.

I saw him make those runs against Croatia and Iceland and was only found once by mascherano. The one where his shot was blocked. The difference tonight was banega who sees those runs and has the ability to find the player. I saw it a few times with Barca last season. I remember him not being too happy at rakitic for not playing the pass quicker on a few occasions

They had solid teams then and he never 'dragged' Argentina to those finals anyway. He was the best player but needed his team mates like all top players ever have.

Of course he needed them but he I don't think any other player in the world would have gotten them to all those finals and certainly not in qualifying them for this world cup. He certainly did drag argentina out of their group in the last world cup with 3 solo goals

Godin gonna put that whole Portugal team in his pocket with room to spare. Suarez gonna win a penalty and Cavani will also drag them defenders all over the pitch.

From a scale to 1 to 10, the level of difficulty for the whole sequence is a ... 12 :amazed:

same leg quad and foot cushion at full speed under pressure, followed by a no-look far post finish from his "weak" foot. lol

Its easily one of his best goals ever and the most beautiful goals this world cup from a purist point of view. I take these type of goals over screamers anytime. Anyone can pull of a long shot but only a hand full of people on this planet can control a pass with their hip, put in torfward in the same motion and finish it with their weak foot in a high pressure match all while going at full speed.

"Pulga, qué hago, pongo al Kun?"

''Pulga what do I do? Should I sub on Kun?''

Look how Messi turns around and just looks at Sampaoli, followed by the quick nod. He's so irritated.

It's not just that he treats the ball like a newborn baby running at full speed. The very few players who can do that surely put every bit of concentration into just bringing it down. It's how Messi changes pace on the second touch while the ball still haven't touched the fucking ground, beating the defender and giving him just the right amount of space to get a finish.
