I got the feeling that whenever Messi pass to a player and makes runs, most of the time, that player feels obligated to return back the ball to him, when I believe Messi himself doesn't always expect one. I mean there's one thing in football called decoy run, and it's an excellent strategy for him because most of the time, enemies are more centered to him than any other players.

Certainly not all players.. old timers already know his usuals. Not the case with most New comers.

good post. to avoid this it's up to the manager to tell forward or attacking players to be more selfish.

nearly everytime they play, the opposition is told watch the return ball to messi.

no wonder barcelona has become so predictable to watch.

He's on his way to be anonymous in CL again in the quarterfinal. This free role is bullshit. He doesn't have the legs, the movement and the workrate to cover that much ground. His area of action should be restricted, and he should be asked to be more active in that area. Basically what happened in 2015. You didn't see Messi on the left in 2015, or going in midfield next to Busquets. He had a role and a position, not the shit you see now. This kind of shit just doesn't work.

Even in Pep's days, in his prime, he played false 9. He didn't drop next to Xavi ffs. And that was the best Messi fitness wise. There were cases vs Atletico when Roberto was conducting the ball and Messi was 20m behind him. That's just unacceptable and laughable.

It's different when you have Xavu and Iniesta coming up with the ball, compared to Rafinha and Roberto. He had to drop down yesterday because nobody else was going to make offensive plays.

I agree with your point. He should be more active in his spot and leave the playmaking more to others.

He doesn't have to drop deep. We've proven it when he was out injured. We had no problems creating chances. We have midfielders who can pass. What he needs to do is occupy a forward spot and be mobile off the ball, he'll never be a beast off the ball (never was tbh), but he should improve his game in this area if he wants to be decisive in the bigger games. Do that, and he'll win another Ballon d'Or, because he is still probably the best in the world when on the ball. He doesn't do enough off the ball and he is not disciplined tactically, these are the things that have been letting him down in the last seasons. I admit the manager has a big role too, but it's also his fault.

when's the last time he had an incredible game, one of those many magical nights we used to see under Guardiola.

would you say the match against Tottenham ranked high among those epic performances?

p.s please remember if answering this question, that a normal game for messi is a great game for any other player in the world. im talking EPIC Messi level performance game.

He was our best player against an ultra defensive team. Good game for a player who has only played once in 7 weeks.

When Messi was injured, there's Cou, there's Raki. Rafinha and Roberto are not really regular (compared to the two above), I think Messi has some doubt regarding this two.

Moreover, they're both now out injured. Who do you expect to orchestrate the midfield. Arthur and Busi are fine, but not he best attacking minds. And it certainly not enough.

When will Cou and Raki be back, actually?
