Messi has this season been directly involved in 41 goals, 27 goals, 14 assists in 2096 minutes on the pitch. He is directly involved in a goal every 51 min.

Not human.

Without a doubt the best and most influential player in the world. Both with regards to hard stats and the more intangible qualities that anyone with even a rudimentary understanding of football can recognize and appreciate.

Had yet another interview stressing the importance of winning the CL the other day. He seems like he's in a seriously great place mentally speaking and hungry to win big and lead the charge. With PSG's injury, Liverpool/Juventus looking shaky, etc. we are in a very great position to go all the way.

Compared to last season, IMO Arthur is more consistent and better than Iniesta was. Iniesta definitely had higher offensive highs and more highlight moments but he faded in the 2nd half of the season and was inconsistent. Arthur is more balanced and has a big impact in letting us play the 4-3-3 again at a high level. Dembele is also leagues better than he was last season and is one of the most dangerous wingers in the world, and Alba is playing at his best level ever with Messi. Even Suarez has improved a lot because of how the others are gelling.

Lucky for Leo that he got the late goal or else I'm sure Thiago would have given some tough words about the miss earlier

fking Marca saying that it wasn't a penalty only from judging the behind angle of Messi. smh.

Even when he has, relatively speaking, a bad day in the office, he is head and shoulders above most players, including elite ones. I am yet to see a player who sees and understands the game as well as him and who consistently takes the right/best decision. It's scary at times.

Fantastic team play leading to the 6th goal. Fitting that the GOAT crowned the night with a goal.

Some stats:

Since whoscored.com started keeping track of stats in 2009, here are some stats for club + country:

Ronaldo has played 716 more minutes (38012 vs 37296).
Ronaldo has taken 723 more shots (2898 vs 2175, 33% more) to reach the same goal tally as Messi since 2009: 442 goals.
Messi has 35 more assists (159 vs 124, 28% more).
Messi's passing percentage is 3.3% better (83.9% vs 80.6%).
Messi has made 235 more key passes (985 vs 750, 31% more).
Messi has 99 more man of the match awards (236 vs 137, 72% more).
Messi's average rating is 0.51 better (8.60 vs 8.09).
Messi has made 1215 more successful dribbles (1976 vs 761, 160% more).
Messi's successful dribble percentage is 8.8% better: (60.4% vs 51.6%).

A few days ago SAF spoke about Messi as being the better player than Maradona. That should be beyond any doubt by now however it is a nice statement by arguably the mangerial GOAT.

I was never in doubt, maybe some guys didn’t see that angle.. pretty clear penalty tbh.

I also thought their penalty was offside... I’m like 99% sure it was. Would like to see the offside line drawn on it.

Surprised that he only has ~200 more key passes than Ronaldo lol. Though it can be explained by RM consistently taking more shots than us on average, Ronaldo's advanced position on the pitch, and the disproportionate amount of chances that Messi creates being shot off target (key pass is a shot on target).

I believe Messi's craziest stats are still "hidden" due to the lack of analytics in football.

Imagine if football had a "yards gained" stat like American football does where it records the forward (vertical) progress covered by an individual either through a dribbling run or a successful pass. That would very neatly encapsulate how important a player is in terms of playmaking and advancing the ball, which correlates strongly to goals.

In this type of stat, I would figure even current Messi outperforms absolutely everyone by an insane margin, and prime Messi would break the scales. Messi's ability to advance the ball at will under any amount of pressure in any situation is his most valuable tool as a footballer IMO.

More important is if SAF thinks he's better than CR. :)

C. Ronaldo, at least to me, is not even in the competition when Messi and Maradona are talked about. Other than RM, Man Utd, Sporting and Portugal fanboys, I doubt that anyone truly believes that C. Ronaldo is a better player than Messi.

However it is a bit of a surprise that SAF is saying that as C. Ronaldo was his "boy" and "invention" and as far as I recall he has always claimed that C. Ronaldo was the better player. Not anymore apparently. That is actually quite telling.

Man i can\t get over how sublime that pass to Roberto was to set him up for that goal. The vision and quick reaction while having 3 defenders around you was just all class.
