I'm sure he will rest a bit before it but I thought the way you were talking you wanted him to play every game until the end of the season just because he had a bit of rest at the start of the season. He still should be on the bench tomorrow seen as he's not 100 percent and we have a tough game at bilbao sunday

No not at all, of course we need him rested for CL.

Even if Valverde decides Messi can't play it is more than worth that than keep that information to himself and have Messi in uniform on the bench. He can even pretend to warm up. That is more than worth than having an extra guy (say Vermaelen) you all but know you are not going to sub into the game anyway.

He’s been rested plenty this season, had 3 weeks off with the injury earlier in the season, rested a game and came on as sub a couple weeks ago. He’s in some of the best form of his life right now and doesn’t look tired or unmotivated.

He also didn't play 5-6 games for Argentina NT which helps a lot as well.

I'm not worried about him for the next two months but he's returning to NT in March so I hope he won't play both friendlies against Venezuela and Morocco. At least he won't have to travel far for those games anyway.

That's not the type of rest he needs. No matter how long he was rested months ago if he plays five games in a row before the Lyon game he will be tired

There are 10 days between Bilbao and Lyon games. I'm sure he won't start and possibly not even be in the match squad for Valladolid next week so he won't play 5 full games before Lyon.

I think people are worried too much about him. He's 31 not 40 FFS. And he doesn't even run much during the games. Sure, if there are any injury concerns then I wouldn't start him today but I'm not worried about his minutes accumulation so far this season. Valverde has managed him pretty well.

Tonight we'll see how much Copa is prioritized despite playing Madrid.

I think he'll start on the bench.

I hope Leo plays!
If he feels good, I don't understand why leaving him on the bench.

He can start as backup at San Mames.
I think tonight is more important than Bilbao.
In LaLiga there are other three months, instead against RM tonight is almost a final.

Anyway I think Valverde and Leo know what they have to do.

Its smarter for him not to play but as a fan i cant help myself hoping that he does play
Clasico is Clasico and I love seeing him destroy Madrid
