10 - Lionel Messi - V6

Respekt_III

Anti-everything
You can say that he isn't the greatest captain and it is stupid of him to back Valverde etc. but he has been by far the best player in the world (yet again) this season. A shame if someone else wins it on the basis of team success (also, yet again).

Ballon dor is a joke so not sure why people fuss over it. It's basically for any high profile player who's team has won the most, it's not for the best player in the world which has clearly been Messi (even with all his flaws) for anyone not deluded.

This video shows everything that is wrong with our midfield and setup. Messi should be playing near the box. Instead he is a CDM when he picks up a ball or even a RB...

How can we even win something playing like this.

Hi, its me..
this thread on reddit is pretty interesting. Lots of good points.

We're getting more and more dependant on him each season, not just end product but the actual system the team plays. Our CL goal scoring record (with own goal being second top scorer over the last few years) is insane. The amount of times we have players in great positions to either shoot themself or pass to someone else, but end up just cutting it back to messi no matter where he is. Even suarez, one of the best finishers in the last 5 years.

I really doubt thats the tactics Valverde is putting across, its been a gradual thing that just seems to be getting worse each season.

Its normal to rely a bit more on your best players, but when hes your best forward, midfielder, goal scorer, passer, and most creative player all in one its a bit worrying.

I'm a big fan of vvd but if we had put away one of those 3 chances Messi created against him and his defence we wouldn't be having this conversation

Well.. if somebody reinjured Messi's arm periodically we wouldn't be here either. But we are here and VVD IS quality. Barca getting plenty of looks is a function of a) it taking place at Camp Nou, and b) having world-class calibre strikeforce. Varane is a very good to great CB as well and stopped Messi on multiple occasions. Despite that, there were 6 losses in Clasicos in past 6 meetings. Does that mean he's overrated? Of course not.

A 'decider' doesn't have to and shouldn't imply a person that wins you the game.

And yes, Liverpool could come away with at least 3 trophies in this calendar year - CL, Supercup and the CWC.

Don't you know? Manager is meant to stop players from looking for Messi!

We have become Argentina as a team (and our board are doing their best also to imitate AFA)."

Ok well let's just say Messi has been the best player in the champions league this season and in the league so that's why he deserves it

Two straight years of having the piss taken out of you and this guy backs the cunt who orchestrated it. Messi is 32 soon, his final years being wasted and quite frankly he's only got himself to blame.

He's earnt the right to be vocal within the club and he's failing to use it for the good of the Club, as long as him and his besty are happy he don't give a fuck.

I'm seething right now, the Club are run by a bunch of idiots, what's worse is the idiot prawn sandwhich brigade who go to Camp Nou give no fucking indication to the board of what everyone wants. Valverde should have been booed out the ground after the Liverpool debacle.

Valverde should have been booted out after Roma.

don't think it is been totally wasted. he's still scoring great goals, assisting as ever. but he does need a strong finish to the career, thats the way you should look at it. .

Ok they each also have a supercup they an win. Club word cup is after BdO voting. There also is most of the 1st half of next season, and each has an international tournament. All these can be factors in tight races--with the international ones the biggest.

Maybe instead of decider I should have used decisive players. A CB or goalie can be a decisive player. VVD has a strong argument to being the most decisive defensive player, though one could also make a case for Allisson too. And for Liverpool you can make a case for Salah or Mane in terms of overall importance.

In Barca case there is only one player anyone could say brought a league trophy by a mile over a league with 3/4 top ranked uefa clubs. Only one player why they were one goal made or not given from making a CL final. One player who statistically towers over all other whether using composed stats, or tradition ones like goals and assists, or for defenders things like clean sheet.

And just serious, anyone wathing the 180 minutes between the clubs in the semifinals would tell you who the most dominating and brilliant individual on the pitch was. Even Klopp and the Liverpool players would admit who that player was.
