Why would the board purposely stop the payment? This is only gonna cause more trouble in a Neymar contract saga that should have been resolved 2 years ago

Most probably because Santos said we acted in bad faith - 40m payment to N & N(Neymar Sr), and don't recognize the contract because of a supposed contract breach from Neymar's side and violation of FIFA transfer regulations. From the club's standpoint, why would you want to get paid for stipulations in the contract you deem was agreed upon without your "consent".

Makes sense, if they're challenging the validity of the contract then they're challenging every part of it.
