Just read on Kicker that Dortmund feels blackmailed by Dembele with his actions, and they are sure that Barca gave him a push to do these childish things like boycotting training. Negotiations will be interesting I guess lol.

Why do Barca take ages to make an improved bid? At this rate nobody will be signed by the end of the window.

My theory is that Barca is using Dembélés hissy fits to lower the value. (it's not completely out of the blue that Barca actually instigated this behaviour during their recent visits to strengthen their position, but there's no prove for that so it only stays defamation). BVB is calling that and is therefor declaring that it will actually push his value, rather than lower it. Don't think that though. Barca is probably sitting idle atm, hoping for more Dembélé antics so that BVB will at some point be forced to sell.

I doubt we told him to intentionally skip training and not answer the phone to any BVB employee.

Hell I don't even think we expected Demeble to go missing for like a day and go on strike like that. If you look at Dembele's reaction during the team photo thing and training the dude looked miserable and didn't even want to be there.

It seems he just said fuck it and thinks going on strike might help things.

Dembele's actions have added some unnecessary toxicity to the whole story. A first offer was rejected and an improved offer hasn't been made thus far - not like BVB has closed the door completely, so rebelling like that was premature. He wants BVB to act in his interest by letting him go, so why turn them against him? And BVB can't really be sure whether Barca haven't encouraged Dembele to go ahead with that. So I can see them take a harder stance now because they don't want to be forced to things by a 20-year-old throwing a hissy fit after having signed a 5-y contract without a release clause. Not like he'd be able to be on strike very long if he stays unless he wants to risk his WC spot.

I understand where you're coming from, But even though it's an ugly sight. I can't recollect a memory of a player rebelled against his club and it made things more difficult, It's always the opposite.

My main point, Is that there are much much more bigger reason for them for asking these absurd figures, Like Mbappe rumored 180m, And knowing we have 220m and are desperate, Even if dembele's shenanigans angered them, It'll make up less 10% of the motiives behind asking for 150m, They're using it more as an excuse to keep playing hard ball.

... and why wouldn't they?
Another user already stated some of the factors here:

You're not listening. He is not worth 150ME, not even close. But the market decides the value. Look at the parameters:

  • Selling club is obliged to pay 25% of the fee to Rennes.
  • Selling club knows Barcelona have atleast 222ME in cash.
  • Selling club economically does not have to sell.
  • Selling club does not want to sell.
  • Selling club has no time to an ample replacement and hence requires the be extraordinarily compensated, rightfully so.
  • Selling club knows other "superstar" talent Mbappe is quoted even higher figures.
  • Selling club knows Barca is in desperate need to sign a replacement for Neymar

All these things drives the price up. Its the circumstances, not the player's performances, age, whatever.

Now what exactly are you blaming Dortmund here? Think of this: People are actually acting offended, that the selling club is trying to make as much money as possible in a transfer deal. Some honestly believe they have the entitled birthright to get cheap deals.

He probably is just disappointed. A once in a lifetime opportunity arises to be a starter at his dream club and his club want 150 million after buying him one year ago for 15. I would need to check myself into an institution in his place.

You're right. However, if I am a new Dembele right now and see how hard they try to block his move to what he sees as his dream club (or so he said), I would stay out of Dortmund. That being said, he should have been clever and put a release clause for a more normal sum. He probably trusted Dortmund and thought they'll let him go without asking the moon and the stars for him.

Dortmund are kind of losing too. Young talented players might not see them as an ideal place to develop in.

He thought they'll let him go. And they said they will. But for the right fee.
And that is not his, but Barca's concern.

You make some good points but ... They have a history of selling their star players , all the top clubs are awash with cash ,
they actually may want to sell him now he's angered the club and fans , probably players as well , they have three weeks to sort out a replacement out ( they've probably been in negotiations for months anyways ) - most deals seem to get done in the last 48 hours of the window ..

"Stand by in the negotiations between Borussia and Barça for Dembele while waiting for the BVB match tomorrow. Negotiations should resume on Monday."
