Alright, got it.

Just sign a bunch of average fullbacks that are not named Alba, Dest and Roberto. Personally I would want us to spend the money elsewhere in that case, but that's just me I suppose.

Nah you didnt get it.

Sign full backs that can do basics and take that 'risk' whatever you claim that risk of losing Roberto, Alba and Dest is and wht they have brought.

Full backs is biggest weakness in this squad by a long way.

What area of team would youn reinforce and with who?

I absolutely agree, but if it's between low-cost solutions like Azpi and 20m+ signings like Zinchenko I would rather go for the former. Or just stick with Alba, Roberto and Dest (again, which is harsh) and sign a decent 2nd CB for that money. Or if god will an actual DM.

Sometimes reality is a bitch.

You are sticking with players who have proven not to be good enough and names of Porro/Zinchenko are to show how easy it is to go out make a bid to improve things. Plenty other players better than the group of full backs Barca have.

Who would you sign for Barca if not spending money on FBs? and part of that would be to try and sell likes of Dest and not renew Roberto anyway and try to get Alba salary off books so not quite the 50m you make out either.

The issue is we are quickly in territory where you spend quite a bit and still gamble. The likes of Porro could turn out to be Dest 2.0 by the looks of it. And Zinchenko is perfectly in line with uninspiring signings like Azpilicueta. Mazouari would have been okay, but personally I think he's rather average. His "price tag" is his biggest selling point, which is never too reassuring. Plus we flat out lost to Bayerns bid. Gaya is half the player Alba is.

It's easy to shoot down names, sorry for that. If there were players like Nuno Mendes on the market I would scream at the club to splash out the 40m (that we don't have though :p).

If you want a guy like Nuno Mendes who had one amazing season and then got signed by PSG then I have a name for you.

Malo Gusto.

I guess we just fundamentally disagree on how we rate these players.

To your question: I like Galan (if low cost or swap with the likes of Puig, Mingueza) and I can see the appeal of Azpi (though I wouldn't be happy about him). And then spend whatever money we have on positions with more exciting players like CB (tons of good to great options to choose from), DM if we can get a luxury signing or - and I hate myself for saying this - Lewandowski. All better than spending 20-30m each on Porro+Zinchenko for example.

Good fullbacks (the usual 40m signings) are simply not on the market, because, well, they don't exist. The excellent ones are impossible (but exist at least).

Galan is almost 30 and a La Liga journey man... like him over likes of Gaya is crazy.. and again it is names that are easy enough to get and could be better out there if club want that.

No club is rating likes of Mingueza/Puig with much if any value and if they have that then sell them and get better players from another club.

Who so you suggest as a DM?

Lewandowski will be 34 and unlikely Bayern sell while spending another 40 odd millio on yet another old player in team full of them is ridiculous.

Your idea is just keep as is with players proven not good enough as dont think can get better. Totally disagree.

The issue is not there not being better full backs out there it is club over rating ones have. It is by far weakest part of the team.

Will be claimed its a risk. As is there is anything else but risks on the market anyway.

Let's see what United does. They have a shit ton of money and the same issues at fullback. I don't see an easy solution unless we can pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Not at all what my point is. I say the alternatives that are usually mentioned are not better - and hence not worth the money just to kick out our shitty fullbacks.

United are irrelevant.

Lets see what they do at CB, CF, DM where you want Barca to spend if that is the argument.

Lets see what any clubs sign at full back this summer not just United to see what was out there.

We round up at 27? Anyway, not much more to discuss here. I respect your opinion but just disagree.

Aye brain fart there not sure who was getting mixed up with on his age. One of the many almost and over 30s been linked to. Apologies to Galan.

Who do you want Barca to sign at DM or CF is Lewa not available?

Sticking with players that cant do the basics has ran its course. Dont see what the risk is of replacing any of them as cant get much worse and Roberto/Dest not exactly beeb regulars this season either.

For me it's pretty simple. In order of importance:
1) Get some cheap depth at fullback (Galan, Azpi..).
2) Raphina would be nice as I can't stand Dembele.
3) Try to get one luxury signing done (Kounde, Tchouameni...)*.

If 3) doesn't work out try to get a world class player with a more questionable age for a lack of alternatives (Koulibaly, Lewandowski).

*would love nothing more than us finding a luxury solution at FB, but highly doubt that's possible

True.

We're risk averse to players like that. But taking risk on either old players, or players with no set position for us, those we love to take

I don't buy the Morata rumors, but if we bring him in on the insistence of Xavi I'm done with him.
