13 - Iñaki Peña

He's still not good enough to be our long-term starter, but so far he's stepping up to the challenge and not letting the competition and pressure get to him.

Which is commendable to be honest.

Everyone thought he would crumble like he did last year, but no signs of that so far. Some of the stuff on crosses is just going to be that way due to his height and small stature. Those are flaws he cannot really do much about

Thing is, under Xavi last season, defense was a mess, so adding Pena over it was making what was already bad, worse. It's much harder to make a player do well if the defense is giving him confidence. It's a two-way street, not only a good keeper instills confidence in a backline, but also a good focused backline is gonna improve the performances of a keeper.

People act as if Pena was the main thing that was wrong, but we conceded 3 goals at relegated Granada with Stegen too. Clownery was present often last season in our backline regardless of keeper.

He did well, but he's similar to Stegen that he can have some good reflexes on balls that come at or near him, but i don't think i've ever seen him make a leaping reach to save a shot that is well placed, which is what makes goalkeepers actual "savers".

Good showing, now put him on the market so we can get some money for him. The best thing that has happened.

Oh no

Barcelona want to initiate renewal talks with Iñaki Peña in the coming months. The goalkeeper's current deal expires in 2026. Flick is happy with his personality, and the dressing room also values how he's responding since the injury of Marc-André ter Stegen. @gbsans

Props for the Bernabeu but ample of evidence from last season suggests he isn't worthy.

Gk coach is to blame tbf. Ter Stegen had one great season with us in 10 years. No wonder he also rates Pena.
