More depth in a position we have been having so much troubles with lately is always welcomed. I wouldn't mind him staying and pack 6-7 CBs in the team. This position must be covered at any situation.

Mascherano should stay. He can play 2 positions and fights for the club on the pitch. Unfortunately same can't be said for many Catalans in our squad.

Agreed. Masch should NOT be sold, unless he is not happy with his playing time. He is a very valuable squad player. Ii am sure if we had this guys against Bayern the outcome would have been a lot different.

Actually He only plays in one position, He'll never play for us as DM, The same way song will never play for us as CB again.
I always admired his dedication and hard work, But his defensive qualities doesn't justifies his stay considering how much we can get by selling him, It's not an easy decision, And i'll certainly miss him, But we're in desperate times, Hard choices will inevitably have to be made.

Just how desperate are we?

If we get 2 CBs (which some rumors say we will), we'll need to get rid of 1, coz we don't need 6. I'd loan Bartra and then maybe sell Masch the following season.

Yes, if we get two fullbacks but who are we looking at? I think we are starting to overlook Mascherano's quality.

Some might call me crazy for saying this, but I'd sell Alves and keep Mascherano. Montoya would be the first choice RB, Adriano would be the backup for both LB and RB, and if he's injured (which is true most of the time), then Mascherano can be the backup RB.

Monster Masch
Mascherano as a back-up right back is a huge no-no, but naturally I'd love to see him stay. He's an excellent footballing example and leader for his team mates and he takes no prisoners.

If we sell Alves and make Montoya the starter, we should get a new RB as a backup IMO. Then again, if we make Montoya the starter, I think we should just bench Alves instead of selling him. We could make some money if we sell him and get a new RB though.

I don't think that either Alves or the club could ever live with Alves being around and not being the first choice RB. I can't see that happening. We might as well sell him, buy a decent backup RB and make some money. The Mascherano comment I made was only another possibility. Mascherano is extremely versatile and it would be a shame if he left. We could probably make more on Alves, as well.

We should be having this discussion under the Alves thread but benching Alves will be a better long term strategy that selling him altogether. Even if Montaya becomes a starter, he will get injured. Also, it is good to have competition and by relegating Alves to the bench when he under performs, it will keep him humble and honest.

In regards to Mash, selling him will not be an option for me. He is too valuable a player.
