14 - Javier Mascherano

Only at Barca can you have a "defender" like him for so long. Our board has to be the biggest idiots i have ever seen. We need 2 CBs

The board and coaches. Guardiola specially. He was the 1st to have the "feeling". Costed 2 goals today. A normal CB would get those crosses easily. Even Bartra ffs.

He´s good at positioning and tackling but that´s not enough. Keep him in DM and sell Song to premier league. Is it really that difficult?

I totally understand the managers' love for Masch... He works his ass off very single game, he's experienced, his intensity is second to none, his words and behaviour are almost always correct... He's the perfect professional and coaches love that, and to some degree it may blind them...

And then you add a complete lack of options for our CB spots and you have Masch starting every single game... The real bias will be evident once we have a competitive and capable backline, will Tata keep playing him as CB over other players? Will he have to change position back to DM? Will he have to leave to another club?

This guy is not a top level defender and maybe not even a proper CB and that should have been clear two years ago. If Benzema had been in full form this game could very well have gone out of reach in the first half. Let's not also forget the fact that he gave away a clear penalty in the 1st clasico this season at the Camp Nou which was missed by the ref.

Why would he use him as a defensive midfielder. Mascherano's style as a defensive midfilder doesn't fit our teams play at all. He's just a destroyer that tackles ands give the ball straight away. Nothing to compare with Busquets and how his game infulences our game. Don't forget that he has played really few games as a DM and that's not a coincidence. If there wasn't the CB break he would never find a stable place in the team.

I always liked Mascherano, he is a fighter he will defend even if he is injured and bleeding, but yesterday, well you all saw what happened...

Yep, I'm with you here. I've always appreciated him for the grit and balls he brings to the table - as one of the few in the team, sadly - but last night was a pathetic display, no doubt.

I think Mascherano would be a PERFECT back-up / alternate DM for Busquets.

I know he played there first and it didn't work out, but that's when he first arrived and was still adjusting etc.

His speed, slide tackles and general grit that's been mentioned would be ideal as an alternate to Busquets.

Bad game, that's all. Doesn't mean he can't be good as a CB in other games. In fact, he was very good as a CB on Calderon, against Diego Costa.

Damn, Mascherano was totally destroyed last night. That's a game he'll soon want to forget. A good, but certainly not great player in Benzema totally owned his bacon. And it wasn't only on the air, Benzema was running circles around him on the ground as well.
The whole backline was weak, but Mascherano was completely exposed.

Tata is that you? He performed in one game where Atletico weren't even that great and his defenders will keep bringing that up as if it absolves him from the frequent brainfarts he commits in most big matches. It's not his fault. He's not a CB and will never be. It's on this idiotic board that he's been our starting defender for 4 years.
