How many times has he been exposed especially in the air.
Mascherano is a great dm for other teams but not Barça.

He is an excellent cb for barca now. Ironed out his mistakes and has a great partnership with pique.

At dm busquets is miles better and even sergio roberto does a better job there. Roberto is an awful cm but can do a job at dm vs the crap teams.

Aerials are his only weakness, really. He's a good passer, tackler, intercepts balls often. Not much went past him and Pique in La Liga last season.

Roberto was always good when defending and his short passes look to be crisp and accurate which is good for a Barca DM. He also has good awareness and can put decent pressure on opponents when defending. Its the attacking part which he can't do and I thought that Lucho had this figured by now. Roberto is good playing deep where he has the time to do what he is good at. DM, RB and maybe possibly LB should be his only positions from now on. I think he can be good enough for mid table liga teams.

yes. Samper even with all his talent and potential is too weak defensively to be a DM, he could be tried as CM though
