That being said, I have no problem treating him as a world superstar after some 2 CLs and 2-3 La Liga titles in in the next 5 years.

1 CL is enough to make him a made man at club level considering we only do CL + LL double as a minimum and don’t really fluke wins.

He is already a world superstar.

I mean a legitimate world superstar. Many difficult tests coming up. Champions League later stages this year and the next, World Cup next year...

So far, he's a bright talent that can reach those heights.

A made man? Far from it. The discussions around him are reaching levels of him potentially be one of the all time greats.

You don’t think a CL and Euro win as key player + eye test is enough to make him an established best in the world class player? What? I see this almost a certainty barring injuries or self destructive habits.

All time great is a step above that and comes with longevity. I see his chances of all time great as good but not guaranteed.

GOAT tier I see very unlikely for him as all of the GOATs are freak athletes in one way or another.

One thing that he has going for him is luck. He’s coming into his prime along with other high class players who are coming into their prime.

As great as Messi was, those Barca teams were such a juggernaut because it was Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Eto, Villa, Pique, Alves all in their primes at the same time. That sort of luck helps a lot.

To show how much luck plays a role in legacies, Suarez has terrible CL stats partly because he was playing for the likes of Ajax and pre-Klopp Pool in his prime while Benz and Lewa were in stacked teams from the start in CL.

Of course he's a top player. The idea is for him to be the best of the current generation. For that he'd need to beat the main men from Madrid in the Champions League. Mbappe and Vinicius.

Of course, he can take his time as he is much younger.

That's a good point, but Yamal is not playing with scrubs either. Pedri and Raphinha are playing at an amazing level this season in our offense. As is Yamal of course.

The idea is to not inflate players to high heavens because it can create an idea in their head that they already made it. And in the grand scheme of things, they are just starting to prove themselves.

Ah yes. I almost forgot about that arc where serghei was unwilling to recognize Yamal’s greatness.

He's young and should be left alone with minimal hyping to reach his potential. Unless he already has the most elite quality, which we will see in CL in the semis and potentially the final.

I don't think he's quite there yet as to decide the biggest games like a superstar. The last thing you'd want from Yamal is for him to peak early and lose motivation in his early 20s when he should be hitting his prime.

Haha. What a ridiculously tiny barometer for Lamine to prove himself. Barca may never even meet Madrid in the UCL in his whole career and that would apparently be enough to invalidate him from being a world class player??? Despite the fact that he has already humiliated them both in Classicos at 17. Interesting that Salah, Vini and Mbappe can be described as being world class without having to smash Barca or Madrid in the UCL though.

It seems categorically obvious to me, having watched him every week, that he is the best player in the world. Nobody is currently dominating games as much as him. And I don't see myself as an footballing illuminary to be able to say, that bar major injury, he will finish his career as one of the Top 50 footballers of all time.

Seems pretty obvious to me and not quite sure how others can't see it.

Well, considering Madrid's dominance over UCL in the last 15 years or so, if we don't face them in CL, this usually means we got beaten by some other team and couldn't get to them.

It is very simple, nobody would've considered Zidane one of the best midfielders of all time if he didn't have those amazing matches and if he wasn't so clutch on the biggest stage.

The margin is small, the pressure is high, and this is what it takes to be the best. Lamine will get 180 mins vs Bayern/Inter, and another 90-120 mins vs either Madrid or PSG most likely. 2 very difficult tests for a kid.

Of course, there wouldn't be any tragedy if Yamal has some bad games and we go out in CL. There's next year, and next year, and next year. He's only 17.

First you asked him to prove himself in the big domestic games ( Atleti and Classico ).

When that was done with ease, you claimed he needed to dominate a UCL knockout game.

When that was done with ease, you have now hedged your bets to 3 games of a season, which most players don't even have the chance to play ( UCL semis and final. )

Yet you have no problem calling Salah the best, who has failed miserably in UCL knockouts ( for nearly 10 years ) and on the international stage as well.

And Mbappe world class ( Still waiting for him to appear in a UCL semi or final )

Or Vini world class ( Who turns into Casper the Ghost when he puts on the Brazil jersey. )

Its just a question of time, give him Madrid and he will beat them. I remember when Mbappe was 17 and everyone thought he is already wc (he is a top player) but Lamine at 17 is 3x better than Mbappe was
