21 - Frenkie de Jong

Haven't really seen reports about the club or training stuff being disappointed with his attitude and mentality in training or on the pitch.

Only thing that comes to mind was the issue with how the club vs. Frenkie wanted to treat his injury, and in that regard I'll never blame the player for wanting to try other treatments. A surgery is not some magical solution. In most cases you want to avoid it if you can, and any person whether you're an athlete or not should try to seek a second opinion as well if possible.

He's just an underwhelming player and disappointing on the pitch considering the expectations a lot of people had. It's not an effort or attitude thing.

Busi starts every game we win the league.

He leaves, de Jong looks a lot worse than he did when playing with busquets in midfield.

If anything time has shown us, he needed old man busquets more than busquets needed him, which doesn't surprise, busquets is a goat level midfielder.

De Jong shit performances in Europe had gone unnoticed by many (not me), when they use to only focus on how slow busquets is, but the player we brought in to level up our Midfield was always just as shit if not worse.

Yup looked so much worse without Busquets, nothing to do with being injured all the time, and midfield teammates being injured all the time or just straight up shit like Romeu. Oh and fielding Christensen in midfield.

0 credit for winning the league the season before though despite having most minutes in midfield with Gavi.

In the not-so-distant past, there were times where De Jong was the only guy on the pitch with proper off-the-ball running. He might not have been a world-beater but he took a lot of responsibility for keeping things moving in an otherwise apathetic, docile team, and I still have respect him for that.

Now things are looking a lot different and he hasn't found a new role. There are no guarantees if he can't make it work but he deserves a proper chance. He's not even fully fit yet ffs. This hysterical media-fueled crusade is a joke.
But to some extent the "media" is right... guy makes 25M and doesn't offer anything more than Casado on 120k a year. Hell, Pedri is on just above 2M a year. From that point of view, and that Frenkie didn't want to renew on slightly less than 25M a year, pisses folks off - and rightfully so. Frenkie isn't worth 25M, or 15M - he isn't even worth 10M. Sure Pedri will soon climb to above 5M, maybe 7M. That's were Frenkie should be, around 7-10M... sign a new contract for 10M a year and thank us for being generous or fuck of tbh.

Yo Casado is on 10k a month and Fraudie is on 300k a month  Frenkie makes like 30 Casado's a month  And some of you wonder why the "media" is raging about Frenkies salary 🤭

We also forget he spent most of his career babysitting Busi and could never really develop his game.
It's sad that this myth still persists to this day. Isn't FDJ supposed to be a generational talent that lifts the team, according to his fanboys and transfer fee? 5 seasons, 5 different managers, but poor frenkie couldn't do shit because of old man busi? Also why didn't Busquets stop Pedri from developing his game then? The excuses for this guy need to stop, he simply hasn't lived up to expectations and that's no one's fault but him

Honestly, No.

It is the sad reality of hype disappointing people. Frenkie is a good player, and decent starter for a club like us. That's his level.

Abidal made a 30M offer for him in summer 2018, and had we got that offer accepted, everyone would be talking about him differently.

Instead, we went for a dick measuring contest against PSG, hyped him to the stars, and he had a purple patch in CL, and he is forever cursed for not meeting those expectations, while being blessed with a bigger salary thanks to it.

Yep.

If he was a 30-40m player, he'd be solid.
