He was a beast until his agent started asking for money, than the injury came. He got his pay rise because he was a beast and club thought he would come back strong from injury. He was never the same. He went and won the WC but he was shot. Has been a shadow of the player he once was.

I prefer more something like Jaap Stam type of CBs
But unfortunately that species is extinct long ago...

And that is the cultural problem of the club. The defense is an after thought and we don't bring in the quality we should.

I actually don't care anymore if he will become a world class or not. We only have 3 CB's and one of them is 34y old Pique. The other one is Araujo and we basically don't know is he is any good. We must sign one more CB without a doubt! Buying him for 18 mil is definitely better than buying some "cheap" old player. Even if he flops he will have a resale value!

He's better defensively but lacks the physical attributes to provide a more balanced backline (all our current defenders are slow as fuck and not very strong).
