Yeah, Pique and Vermaelen aren't much different. They're both human beings. Both white, light colored hair and eyes. Both have good looking wives. Both have male sons.

As a matter of fact, one could argue Pique and Vermaelen could be identical twins with a bit of plastic surgery and a pair of tall heels.

I wonder what will happen if The Verminator strings together a couple more stellar performances together before Piqué's back. Piqué will obvious walk right back into the starting XI - as he should - but then what? Be stone cold and bench Vermaelen? Bench Masch? Nah, that's not going to happen. Rotate all three according to opponent, fitness and form? That's what I'm guessing will happen, and it sounds good to me, but some part of me would like to see the Belgian nail a regular starting spot, if he keeps on impressing. It'll most likely still be Piqué and Masch as the leading duo, with Vermaelen as a close backup followed by Mathieu and Bartra. If the three aforementioned can keep healthy (and playing well of course), we're suddenly looking at some very, very solid depth in our central defense - certainly deeper than we've had for a good few years.

The upcoming bout at the Calderón could end up very significant for Verm's season, which is why I'm both extremely anxious and excited for it.

Rotating CBs is a really bad idea IMO. A CB pair needs to communicate well and coordinate and that is more difficult when they are not playing regularly together.

Yeah well, obviously not rotation on a game to game basis, but being able to rest every now and then without fretting over lack of qualified cover could prove very valuable. Besides, Piqué and Masch have so many games together under their belts, that they hardly need to train partnership a whole lot.

Jees . We should be celebrating this guy , he's like a new player and could easily be our top central defender by the end of the season . No idea why some are dissing his play or doubting him . He's always been a great defender and just had a fe injury set backs . We are gonna need him if something happens to Piqué or Masch . We've lost Bravo for over a month now so these things do happen .
