By other CBs you mean the one and only Marquinhos right? There were never much solid rumors that Barca wants any of Hummels or Benatia so bad. It was all "Marquinhos or no one" nonsense each day. I don't think Barca really tried that hard to get a top class defender, beside their "fixed" targets.

I think they were fixed on Marquinhos because they thought it was the most realistic target:

  • - PSG was hit by FFP
  • - PSG bought DL, hence crushing Marcos' dreams to be a starter this season (unless DL does crap, which could happen)
  • - Marcos wanted to leave (it was confirmed by Le_Parisien that he asked to leave and that nasser refused. Marquinhos accepted that, but history will remember that HE ASKED to leave)
  • - They thought that PSG would push to buy Di Maria or Hazard and so would need money because of the FFP
  • - They miscalculated how much Nasser and Al Thani refuse to sell players they just bought 1 year prior.


People dislike to hear it, but i believe it was way more realistic than Hummels. And i still believe they asked, but BvB said he's not for sale, and Hummels doesn't want to leave this year. It was more complicated than trying to snatch marquinhos.

Remember that MU is doing the same thing with Hummels that barcelona did with Marquinhos, with the same result, if not worse since they managed to have Klopp laughing his ass off about it. At least PSG is not making fun of anyone.

Transfer fee for Arsenal centre back Vermaelen will be 15M plus 4M variables depending on Champions Leagues won. Five-year contract. [rac1]

You really don't believe in that bold part do you? Even you were one of those who kept coming here laughing at Barca thinking they could get him off PSG. I don't know where that "realistic" part coming from. Either if we agree on Hummels I don't agree that someone like Benatia was unrealistic as well. I just don't think Barca tried enough for him cause he was not their priority as someone like Marquinhos was.

And agents meet many clubs. Doesn't mean each one of them clubs want their players so bad. It's their jobs to negotiate with the interested clubs or offering their players to the certain clubs.
