Regardless of his quality, Barcelona is actually buying cbs now? Usually they just buy some midfielder to play along with Pique, this is tradition in Barcelona, it just the way it was ment to be. Now they are moving away from their traditions?

Every single time in the past 2,3 seasons that I wanted to watch this guy he was either on the bench or injured. I really didn't believe Barca could go that stupid paying 19m for this guy.

Fee aside, I too am very happy Barcelona is buying CBs.

Also i tend to believe they actually tried to get other CBs but failed because they were not for sale.

We will never know, but imo, i think they asked Roma and Dortmund, but found closed doors.

It's too easy tosay "they should have bought this one or this one", but in reality, if they are not for sale and their clubs not in need of money, you can't change that.

So instead of being stubborn like last year, they buy somebody who can be bought. It's fine by me, really.

I love Dortmund as a club but with modern football the way it is there's only so long they can hold onto players that are considered as some of the best in the world. At least one of Reus, Hummels or Gundogan will be sold next summer, perhaps more.
I wouldn't get my hopes up about Barca going for Hummels though. We signed two centre backs this summer so we probably wont even consider buying one for another 5 years.

I never get that, if the Dortmund bunch wasnt such traitors and effed off to Bayern etc., they would probably have won something more. One year ago Mario G left, and Lewa had probably already made up his mind. But they played CL final, and they had won the league 2 times previously. Dortmund is still one of the best clubs out there, and i think they will remain so.

What i meant is that what they will win or ot next season won't change anything since this year they had bad results and still hold on the players they want to keep.

If anyone leaves next year, it will be because of release clause and such (Reus for example), not because they failed to be champion.

All you Arsenal fans here, what do you make of it? Obviously you're happy with the reported fee but do you think Barcelona are buying a dud or can he do good for us?

The impression I have of him is that he was a pretty good defender and was unlucky with one bad injury (he isn't injury prone with multiple injuries) and lost his place in that time period. Once Wenger settled on Mertasacker-Koscielny he was never going to get his place back. If he regains his form he'll be a good player to have in the squad.

I didn't say that i agree with them.

All i want is Vermaelen being able to help the team. And I think he can.

I don't expect him to be the next TS or Hummels or Puyol.

If people keep their expectations at a normal level then there's good chance they won't be disappointed imo.
