I would really like to know the thought process behind buying players like this. Even when fit Vermaelen was never a class defender. Both fanbases of United and Barca didn't want him when they were linked with him during the summer transfer window. Arsenal's fanbase didn't care that he would leave except for how much they would get for him. Now add to this that he is also a crook and I really want to know how people who are getting highly paid can come to the conclusion that this is a worthy multi-million Euro investment. No wonder Spain as a country is in deep shit economically if this is how people run their businesses.

In January 2016 they still have a change though (although not many high-profile players move in the winter transfer-window)

What's ridiculous is the fact that Barca bought him.

I was optimistic that he will come back and play, but now I'm with you guys. It's a lost cause and that transfer was a mistake.

I won't say it's a big mistake tho, as he didn't cost a lot to begin with. That said, to have picked him instead of Benatia is silly.

When you're facing a 2 window transfer ban, you don't gamble. It's a luxury you don't have. We're stuck with Pique, Mathieu, Masch and Bartra until 2016. Getting another top cb was a priority. It's not a big deal, it's a huge, immense deal.

Gettin Vermaelame wasn't even a risk. It was all around stupid. A so so defender whose best days has been some 5 years ago and the next years has been spending more time in hospital than on the pitch. Didn't need an Einstein to realize he's the last defender Barca needs to look at, let alone paying +15m and buy him.

This signing is Zubi's legacy. A lazy, uninspired, risky, last ditch signing that spelled disaster from the start.

Zubi spent 95% of the past two summer transfer windows trying to make unrealistic, stupid signings from PSG. When he finally realized he was fucked and PSG had absolutely no incentive to sell, he tried to save face last-minute by signing Verm. It's an absolute disgrace that this was allowed to happen. He should have learned from the previous summer in trying to sign Silva, but he tried the same bullshit this year with Marquinhos. To top it all off he went for an injured player who the medical staff asked him not to buy, it just shows that he did literally no scouting or research at all into the market and went with the obvious Arsenal buy when his high-profile PSG target obviously back-fired.

What is incredibly sad about this is the transparency of Zubi's incompetence in this ordeal.
