25 - Wojciech Szczęsny

He can play CL.
Barça was smart and only had two keepers from first team in the list and one from Barça B. There is a rule for CL, and only for keepers, if one has a long injury and you don't have two keepers from the first team you can add another before knockouts.
Oh , then i stand corrected above. If that rule is indeed in effect we are some lucky bastards for once

Barcelona have chosen Wojciech Szczęsny to replace the injured Marc-André Ter Stegen. However, before finalizing the deal, Barça need Szczęsny to resolve his contract with Juventus. Although he terminated his deal, a clause requires him to pay a fee to Juventus if he joins a top-tier club within a certain timeframe.
@tjuanmarti
I hope the contract isn't what was said earlier - that everything below the 12M gross he got for his last year, he has to pay Juve from the new club... so he won't really make one euro below 12M. Or, hear me out, or we pay him 0 and than Juve has to pay his whole salary

This is the rule, 31.14:
If a club cannot count on the services of at least two goalkeepers registered on List A because of long-term injury or illness, the club concerned may temporarily replace the goalkeeper concerned and register a new goalkeeper at any time during the season and complete the official registration of List A with a goalkeeper fit to be fielded. An injury or illness is considered long-term if it lasts at least 30 days as of the day the injury or illness occurred. If the goalkeeper recovers before the end of this 30-day period, the player must nonetheless remain off List A until the end of such period.

These are our lists:
The A list comprises of the 22 first team players plus Unai Hernández (27) and Gerard Martín (35).

On the B list are 11 players from La Masia: Ander Astralaga (26), Marc Bernal (28), Aleix Garrido (29), Pau Prim (30), Diego Kochen (31), Héctor Fort (32), Sergi Domínguez (36), Quim Junyent (37), Alexis Olmedo (38), Andrés Cuenca (39) and Antonio Fernández (42).

So we registered only Peña and Mats on List A, since Mats is not available, we should be able to register Szczesny. B list doesn’t count in this case.

Yes you are right. Below are Uefa rules

Tricky part is the text "cannot count on the services of at least two goalkeepers on List A". We have Pena and Astralaga registered already. Is he a A or B list?

Club can’t sign someone when Stegen insists on playing every match in every competition. Very few GK would settle for that..

Stegen even gets to pick the goalkeeping coach. How many people will want to play as a goalkeeper for a club where the starting keeper is the one picking the coach?

The situation is nothing short of disgusting lol.

Luckily for Barca, Stegen is likely finished at top level and now will be forced to move on.
De la Fuente was GK coach before Ter Stegen came to Barca. He was kept in the staff by each and every manager we've had. What's this shite about Ter Stegen "picking" him like he pays his salary? Yes, mostly likely, after all these years together, they have a connection and prefer working together, but it's not like club couldn't have ditched him if one of the managers we've had would have wanted it.

One of ter Stegen's conditions when he renewed his contract was them also renewing de la Fuente's contract.

Sure they, or any manager can probably ditch him, but tough doing so when the club's unquestionable starter sticks by him and dragged his own renewal until he was sure his goalkeeping coach continued. Would have probably renewed anyway, but the club weren't willing to take that chance for whatever reason.

The club even told Koeman to not bring in his own goalkeeping coach and retain him. Won't be surprised if they told others the same.

Inaki should have never been the backup in the first place. Should have been sold a long time ago. People at the club are either really delusional when it comes Inaki and the GKs we got in the academy, or are/were afraid of rocking the boat with ter Stegen by signing an actual good backup or someone to directly compete with him.

I think it is more of cost saving.
They know he is shit, but they don't want to waste resources on a GK who is likely only playing 4 games a season..
Sort off like Jorquera back in the day, we only sugned a serios backup (Pinto) when shit hit the fan.
Then Pinto was done and dusted by 2010, and we still counted on him for the same reasons, until VV got injured and Pinto cost us.
