FC Barcelona and Marc Bernal have reached an agreement on an adjustment of the player's contract, which binds him to the club until 30 June 2026, when his status as an U19 player ends, with the option to three more years.

The buyout clause has been set at 500 million euros.

He's developing physical at a very good rate, which is obvious given his age.

But I like whatever the club has been doing with him and yamal over the last few years, they are adding a decent amount of muscle and upper body strength without adding too much mass.

To think we had not one but two busquets replacing cooking in masia all this time.

Don't think he will be able to dislodge Casado. Maybe in Xavi's positional system but not in Flick's fluid one. No chance being a pressing terrier like Casado either.

I don't know, but it seemed like Flick initially rated Bernal higher than Casado before he got injured.

I'll be tough now as Casado is a starter but it's good though as we can afford to be patient with Bernal when he gets back.

Is rated as the bigger talent than casado and flick seem to like him more the casado at the start of the season.

Everything points to him having a big part to play at the club in the near future

He should be transformed into a CB I think. I'm not sure his height (190 cm still growing no homo) is adequate in the DM position. This position requires lots of turns and swirls .. just notice how Cassado is giving opponents nightmares because of his agility and speed of changing direction. Can't remember many tall great DM with Very few exceptions (Viera Toure etc), and even those not sure they are suited for Barca DNA (buskets preferred over Toure for example ).

He's about 2 CM taller than busquets, that's the model he's been built around.

Ability and speed is what you need at CB more so than DM, no matter how well you potentially read the game.

At DM if they get by you, odds are their is someone to cover.

Well, having a tall CM/DM is not unusual for Flick considering Goretzka was a vital cog in the wheel during Bayern's treble season and he's only 1 CM shorter than Bernal is.

I think Flick initially saw Pedri as his Thiago and Bernal as his Goretzka so to speak until he got injured. But there's also room for a Kimmich aka Casado.
