28 - Marc Bernal

He should be transformed into a CB I think. I'm not sure his height (190 cm still growing no homo) is adequate in the DM position. This position requires lots of turns and swirls .. just notice how Cassado is giving opponents nightmares because of his agility and speed of changing direction. Can't remember many tall great DM with Very few exceptions (Viera Toure etc), and even those not sure they are suited for Barca DNA (buskets preferred over Toure for example ).

Rodri is as tall as him.

Top managers make these mistakes all the time. Even st. Pep here.

Bernal is the bigger talent and it isn't close tbh. Assuming he returns healthy with no setbacks of course.

He is just more creative, bigger and more able in playing a bigger part of attack. Can play in the Pedri role too.

Casado is proven now, and he Bernal will have to earn the spot back, but he absolutely has the tools for it.

Don't forget he's 4 years younger than Casado, so there's no rush to become undisputed starter. It could even be good for Bernal that Casado is established which gives him opportunity to develop without added pressure. He and Casado are different players so in some games Bernal will be better suited and other games both could play.

It's a great "problem" to have and I'm very much looking forward to his development. Casado's too with added competition.

Bernal is better. But Casado has characteristics that made him a way better companion with Pedri.

Tenacious, never stops moving and aggressively moves for space.

Bernal is way more traditional and isn't naturally inclined to fight for space and offer passing angles.

Things he should build into his game as he grows and returns. If anything, the time off may make him work twice as hard to improve when he gets back. Which in a strange way may be a blessing.

Anyways, it is Casado's moment right now and I'm loving the player he is growing into. And even down the road there is the potential of him shifting to right back and being a pseudo midfielder when in possession like Marquez made him, ala Kimmich. So he is here to stay.

But you can see how sometimes he struggles when receiving the ball under pressure to find a solution. Something compared to Pedri, Olmo and Gavi, that he is not a natural at.

TBH, I think Bernal-Gavi midfield might work well IF Gavi improves his posiional discipline. I think their styles would complement eachother as do Casado and Pedri.

It's nice that we are set in midfield and we don't need to shop for CM's.

There are a few guys coming through, Pedro Rodriguez and Xavi Espart, more in the Casado mold so hopefully with his breakthrough and Flick we can go on to develop different midfield profiles going forward.

I would say more talented or better potential. Casado managed to translate his skills to the highest level and demonstrated that over a significant number of games. That's not a small feat.

Remains to be seen if Bernal can achieve that coming from an injury. Wouldn't be the first talent who faded.

It doesn't have to be Bernal or Casado. We should be happy to have both. More depth down the road and it's all free.

But yes I'd still prefer Bernal because he brings a bit more to the table long term

Does he really? Casado is playing Barca-level week in and week out right now, Bernal got injured after a couple of weeks - so I side with Joan on this one, it very much depends to be seen what Bernal can cook...

Football can be a cruel mistress in that regard.

You appear to be the chosen one but all it takes is one bad injury and someone else is chomping at the heel to take your place and Casado did that and I'll be a tough battle for Bernal once he gets back up and going to fight for it.
