4 - Ronald Araújo

Because Araujo is a TIME MINE FOR A TEAM THAT PLAYS PASS.
I’m telling you seriously, every time the Uruguayan got the ball , the thought was spinning in my head: just don’t do anything stupid.

But all sorts of clowns repeat that the passing game is not so important for a defender.

This is just crazy. How can the passing game not be important for a defender today, if even for a goalkeeper it is important in a team that relies on the passing game?

Sell this guy, we have an equally strong beast in Faye, who is a much better ball handler and passer.

Can easily pass it to Kounde or just play a long ball for safe. But no, pretend he is Laudrup or something.
Looks like all the hype of "no one can dribble past him" wasn't good, if he developed a personality to take on absolutely unnecessary tacklings. He often plays near the red line and yesterday not only he was punished for it, but the whole club in the most gruesome way. Unexcusable mistake with his experience to tackle like that early in the game, being 2 goals up.

Huge huge mistake. But alot of you will scoff at this.

We were not playing with the mindset to switch to playing with 10. If we were we would have managed much better with riding the sending off and possibly progressing.

Even with 11, we were building to conceding inviting pressure without increasing our ball and movement speed.

Rome and Anfield all over again, just being masked by the sending off a one piece of Lamine magic.
Nerp.

But we were always gonna concede, to think we were going to keep a clean sheet against PSG was unrealistic, xavi knew this.

It was a matter of managing how much. And scoring at least 2

Morons here really compared him with Van Dijk.

He isn't even close to Saliba, Konate and Gabriel lmao.

The Uruguayan Upamecano/ Pink-haired wannabe Puyol has no pure defensive qualities. He's just a strong and fast donkey. Weak at tackling, interceptions, positioning, marking, passing, mentality and IQ.

A 17 year old Cubarsi is so much more mature and intelligent than him.
He's better than all of them.

Cubarsi is just goated.

Cubarsi-Christensen could better lineup. Need a proper RB, and Cancelo is not the greatest in defence. And a GOOD DM is a must.

He does such tackles all the time, just before refs allowed it.

I would sell him for 100+ in a second, considering Cubarsi looks stellar and there are solid options in the market.

This is rough to watch. I do think that Christensen would maybe anticipate that pass into space for Barcola better. Frenkie was just daydreaming as he always does. He sees that Mendes will be first on the ball but doesn't cut out the passing lane to Barcola.. Same for Araujo tbf but he had a hall of shame performance
Pause around 38 or 39 seconds:
This was a recurring situation during the two games. PSG has pressed our left side and pushed us to build from the right defensive area. i.e Araujo and Kounde, both are underwhelming at best and Araujo is known to be our worst player on the ball.
The left side and midfield deferred to Araujo & Kounde several times rather than assuming the responsibility. There isn't a single CDM/CM who provided an outlet for our defense in such situation. Araujo had a split of a second to pass to Kounde after that all his options were closed.

Easy to blame him, but this is a systematic problem rather than an individual issue. There are are 2 sides of every pass, one who plays it and a recipient of the pass. When we give the ball to our worst passers and gave them no recipient, ot is a team issue.

PSG OTOH had 4 ball playing defenders, had 2 wingers who consistently shows in the build up, has 3 CM who knew where to be. PSG pressing was well identified, and they knew how to deal with our weaknesses.

For games like this, we need a RB that knows ho to get out of the defensive 1/3 and we need a midfield who knows how to act as a unit. Our current midfield consists of several players who are redundant to each other who lacks ability to deal with press as a whole unit.

Nothing excuses his error. He can play long or pass it back to Stegen. It happens frequently for your passing outlets to be marked when playing vs a top opponent.

This is what I was saying. There was no speed of circulation and no movement.

We asked for the error.

When we did dominate in Paris, it is because we held possession in the PSG half, not our own.

PSG like most Lucho teams, are very bad on defence.

This is why he is not leadership material. Real leaders show up and lead the team in most important matches and moments, not fuck everything up. Tackling like a maniac does not make you a leader - proper mentality, composure and top notch decision making in tough moments does.
