4 - Ronald Araújo

Kounde had a couple of stinkers, but he’s better than what Araujo has shown in the big games.

Remember, that our biggest win in CL and El Clasico came without Araujo at CB.

Look I was a big fan of Araujo but his antics and PSG debacle soured me on him. He’s also injury prone.

Pal, Kounde in the last Classico in October was molested by Vini. Refresh your memory
The collective high-line approach by Hansi saved us

Difference with Kounde is he arrived with credibility and transfer fee. Araujo came through our system. It's been always like that with very few exceptions of generational talent. Like Ansu Fati's contract.

Credibility and transfer fee is not enough an excuse for the contract they gave him.
He was getting 1m gross at Sevilla, and he jumped to 13m gross here.

Totally unacceptable under any circumstances.
He should have gotten 6-7m gross MAXIMUM

I agree to some extent if we talk about today's Kounde. But you have to put into perspective another player's contract - Lenglet. 16m gross p/y. To this day we pay 3/4 of his salary as per deal with Atletico Madrid.

You'd think Kounde would have signed for 6m while having that fallen compatriot of his on an almost triple payroll? Nah.

That was an old Bartomeu criminal contract.
Kounde was signed under Laporta administration, when supposedly priority was to rationalize the wage structure.
The player himself knew wages are different now

No thanks, that's not an excuse

Do we have any source about what wage Barca proposed to Araujo for his extension to compare him to Kounde's situation? Not that it compares, since Kounde is probably both better and much more available than Araujo.

Context matters

Kounde had a offer on the table from Chelsea with similar wages and he was the player the club identified as a key target.

Contract to 2027, he'll be sold before then, because I'm sure he won't want to stay much longer.

Much to do about nothing really.

Besides, Birdy logic is faulty. Just because we made a mistake with Fati doesn't meam we should continue to make mistakes now and into the future.

I'd rather this board learns from past errors.

Birdy posits himself an objective logician but I've never seen someone cartwheel/twerk so hard for players/managers/clubs he's biased towards.

I mean, this is the lad who thinks Klopp's Pool would have destroyed Pep's Barca
