5 - Carles Puyol

I'll be heartbroken but, it's probably for the best. I don't see him getting back to his best and if he keeps injuring himself it's not good for him either. He should stick around as team motivator though, we'll miss him immensely as a character.

It's a very logical course of action and it has been this way for a while, but seeing it now as a reality is a very sad thing to think about. Puyol is one of a kind and even if he can't offer us much football-wise anymore, his retirement would still be a huge loss.

This has been coming for some time. But it will be sad to see him go. We should keep him around in some kind of role at the club if only to keep Pique on his toes.

It's the better for himself, he tried but injuries are going worse and worse. There will be no other captain like him, ever. The most inspirational man for this team, who wouldn't let it down even on hard times. And you see even now he wants to offer his very best for the team. His loss won't be only for the obvious reasons. Hopefully i believe as well he should get a big place in the team for what he offered through the years. One of the very top defenders ever for me.

Our new signing at CB.
I can't remember the last time that he could play 2 consecutive games.

This !

Very stupid decisions taken by our management and as if not enough they stated over and over again about this supe transfer in the defensive area :)

Very unselfish player. He doesn't want to be a burden for his team and will only continue playing when he's at his best. He knows that if he continues and can't get back to his best, he will only be a liability. What a captain!

As hard as it is, if it comes to that is for the best.

Yeah, it does appear that it is closer to becoming a reality...Hard to imagine but I believe they set January as a test to see how well he could recover to add something to the squad...He knows better than anyone and would be the first to acknowledge whether he can still add enough to the team...He has looked limited each time I've seen him play this season in one aspect or another so I don't think it's just a question of fitness...Of course, being out for as long as he has, it was always going to take time to get back into playing shape

I guess we'll see

Love the man but that contract last season was stupid from the club. Should have been a one year rolling deal with a new centre half signed in the summer to replace him.

Contract wasn't that bad ,it was something to honour him as a player and don't put him under pressure to retire i.e it guarantee that there won't be "retire or go somewhere else "situation like Juve did with Del Piero
It is clear that he would make the best decision for himself and the team, not signing a new CB was the management fault, not his and it sn't related to his contract either
