Valverde: "There are ten days left before the Champions League. It isn’t a question of permanently resting the players for safety, we need them to compete and maintain form to play well. Some changes will come but we will go with full force against Villarreal and Atlético.”

Still no playing time in this meaningless derby.
Guess he won't have any valuable minutes until the match vs. Huesca:facepalm:

Yeah Huesca sounds right for Alena. Malcom got PT today and it worked well, he should be ahead of Alena in the pecking order IMO. I hope Rakitic, Suarez and Alba get some off time either vs Villareal or Atletico building toward the CL with United (with Malcom and Vidal getting 1 start each + somebody for Alba), but not that hopeful.

What pecking order? Alena is a midfielder and Malcom is a winger.

Apples and oranges.

Well you can only do 3 subs, plus coutinho can play both there positions. So yes if malcom plays that is less likely alena plays. Key thing is valverde figuring the the 16 or so players he would play in a big game if all is available. Right now the likely bench players as options are coutinho, roberto/semedo, vidal, umtiti (pecking order), thinking probably next is malcom and yes alena one spot more distant.

The thing is that there should be no bench pecking order and the subs should be done according to what is needed in the game.

The "pecking order" is not some arbitrary or authoritarian structure, it is simply your best and most trusted players. Every game you have 11 starters and at the most 4-5 others you might turn to as possible subs based on normal situations. (non normal situations are getting your keeper or CB injured or in Barca's case Messi/Alba/Suarez injured--otherwise they play the whole match). I really can't see a situation in a CL elimination match where you would play Alena over Vidal/Coutinho/Malcom/Roberto as the sub options for where he might play. He just isn't there yet.

It's a waste of time.
Why would he go to the farmer's league from La Liga?
He needs to stay and compete for the starting 11.
It's much better for B team players who need more competitive football than Segunda A and B.
