Kid has the 2nd best touch and ball control of all Barca and Barca B midfielders put together, and the only who is better at that is 33 years old. That has nothing to do with age or experience, you are either a technical player or not. And he just is. It's the same with Thiago and Isco. Their technique allows them to do several things with the ball that other players can't do. Start using him as the rightful Iniesta successor. He has everything required from a creative mid and just needs a manager to trust him like Pep did with Busquets back in the day.

Hopefully Valverde proves to be that manager for Alena. As he gets more secure in his position as manager here I expect him to give more chances to younger players.

Lot of misplaced passes there?

Passes tend to get misplaced when you actually try to move the ball forward. His pass success rate is probably lower than what you'd expect from Gomes or Rakitic but he's a better passer regardless just for trying.

What surprises me is how comfortable he look in the preseason playing in any organized set up. He was calm, read the game well, and executed the game plan with some nice quick touches and one-twos. It is impressive for a guy who plays under a coach (Gerard Lopez) who has a thing against technical players and tactics in general.

If Arda leaves within the next week, then why not promote him? We failed to sign a midfielder and EV doesn't count on Gomes. That's 3 open positions in the team.

There are so many young players lighting up the football world these days, Alena at 19 could do the same.

What makes you think Arda would be leaving in mid season!?

Arda leaving or not will have nothing to do with Alena promotion because he'll play as a winger if/when he'll get a chance. EV will count on Gomes now that he stayed.

Don't get this obssesion with promoting Alena. We should continue with the plan. Play him regularly in Barça B and call him up for first team when Valverde will plan to use him. No sense to promote him and then not get him minutes.

He should be promoted and given a lot of minutes. Even as a B player he has more to bring than the likes of Gomes or Rakitic. Granted, it's super unlikely to happen, but we'll have this same problem of having a ton of trash in our midfield next season, that we have now. The only difference is there will be no way we can justify keeping Alena down to support this trash for another season.

He won't be promoted, the teams are set. He is a Barça B player. The only thing you can hope is that Valverde calls him up frequently but with the heavy calendar of the 123 and the board's emphasis on remaining in that league rather than developing players, I personally don't see that happening very often. Maybe a Copa game early on. The midfield is overpopulated as well.
