6 - Gavi

His foolishness with respect to tackles and fouls is starting to be a big concern. It's not something he seems to be learning from - dude is a teenager but has played 100 games for Barcelona now, and seems to have no idea that he is making a foul. He's always complaining that he didn't touch the guy and makes that exasperated face at the referee. How can you make a stupid UNNECESSARY foul when you are already on a yellow? I would bench him (even if he wasn't already suspended) just for him to get it in his head.

Not sure if he's being mollycoddled or what, but someone (Xavi) needs to get real with him.

It wasnt just him doing that.

Whole team seemed to be looking more to foul on the counters rather than actually win the ball.

Ended up with half the team carded and a man sent off.

Xavi needs to stop telling them to do that because they are starting to think fouling is the first option rather than a last resort when man gets away from you.

What can a man do against such reckless hate?

Read his interview, he loves your poster boy Frenkie, so lighten up a bit.

Haha no 'hate' and hope for him to improve a lot and be a top player.

Now 'hate' would be more accurately would what would see when likes of Puig took to the pitch.

Back to Gavi....Barca rarely control the middle of the park with him in there. He too often is a headless chicken struggling to get in right areas to receive the ball when Barca in possession and when defending he constantly leaves gaps when chases anything that moves.

Still needs to calm down, improve positionally and show a lot more quality on the ball.

He has been better this season than last. Particularly when my man Frenkie there beside him as he has the mobility and intelligence to help plug the gaps Gavi leaves.

But the last two games he has made less than 30 passes in each of them and his passing his been basic at best with little quality and control.

Folk make out he was far better than actually was against Sevilla etc. it was another game Barca struggled to control middle of park and his passing was bang average and not on ball enough to help control game.

Chance for Fermin.

Also Gavi will get some rest...

He was unplayable against Sevilla in second half and turned to crap one match later. Consistency like prime Dembele :stretcher:

He's 19 not 26 though. Being inconsistent at his age is hardly shocking.

People forget how young he still is because he's been around for years. But what we're doing with Ansu, Pedri, Gavi and Yamal is more exception to the rule than a norm. In other top clubs players at 19/20 are usually only making their first team breakthroughs not already being established (starters). And before someone names young starters in other teams ofc they exist but no team expected to compete for everything has given so many minutes to teenagers than Barca in last few years. And now these kids are victims of their own early success and increased expectations for them.

He's playing more with his heart than head and sometimes will cost us but every team need players like Gavi. His team mates also admit that they need his endless energy. That said he also benefits having a calming presences of FDJ and Pedri (despite also being very young he has different personality than Gavi) alongside him which he obviously doesn't have right now. Gundo could ofc also become a great ally of him but they still lack chemistry.

Definitely, but im surprised that you can play one match nearly excellent and then 4 days later you can look so 'lost' on the pitch. As you mentioned he is only 19 so there is plenty of time to prove me wrong :D

Could be a matter different setups, plus being a home game. Versus Sevilla we had Raphinha and no Oriol. But also Christensen in defence to help with our passing out.
