7 - Ferran Torres

'Combining that way'?
What way?

Are you able to pick an instance from the game and show us how exactly he 'combined' starting from out wide?

Because what I saw was whenever he received wide with players around him, he always back-passed without even trying to create something

His chances didn't come from any 'combination' he started. Rather from favorable conditions created by steals of ball prompted by the collective pressing.
In those situations anyone could have run to get at the receiving end

I know his movement in the CF position is good, that's why Pep played him there.
That wasn't the case tonight
Simply as that

Pep has played a number of players at CF. He's been playing Foden there recently. We are not Man City and Xavi is not Pep. We can't copy him.

Tell to Alberto that Torres scored 16 league goals in his career in 114 matches.

For a reason.

Is Alberto another hopeless dreamer?

Oh, another fool who doesn't understand anything about football.

In his first season since the move, he scored 7 goals in 24 matches. And he was 20 years old. He just came to a brand new championship.

He spent two full seasons with Marcelino's team - and Marcelino is a coach with extremely defensive football. His narrow 4-4-2, his football is much more defensive than Simeone's football.

Now go for a walk. And don't forget to turn off your internet.

BBZ going back as far as Torres at 16/17 in Mestalla to try and make a point about goals.

Nice.

Now how many goals has Braithwaite score that Torres is 'on a par with or worse' BBZ?

He is a 21y old player. Young players rarely have great scoring capabilities. Give him time and we'll see what happens. In contrast, he scored 12 goals in 22 appearances for Spain.

1. young players usually don't have good finishing skills
2. 98% of them don't develop those skills even later except for a Cr7
3. young players are usually the fastest and the best dribblers in teen years and in early 20s

So, numbers wise, the most likely scenario is that he will be even slower, weaker dribbler and that he won't improve his shooting skills significantly.

Jam, you forgot Germany on a World cup 2018.
That is a key proof for this conversation.

So he will have that average of 16 goals in 114 games is what you expect?

What numbers for him to be a success?

Germany 2018.

Nice deflection when cant provide a response. Can mention Germany any time you want though.

He for sure won't be slower at 23. How did you get to those 98%? Seriously?

BBZ, fool, listen to me, if you put Halland in the championship of Spain in Valencia MARCELINO, how many goals would he score?

Btw, regarding finishing skills, you either have a talent or you don't.

For example, Fati seems to have a finishing talent.

For players, it is way easier to turn from talented players into hardworkers (learning tactical and defensive skills), like Rakitic turning from a Cf and a No10 into a babysitter for Messi.

On the other hand, it is way harder to improve in technical/talent-based skills, like expecting from Arthur to suddenly learn how to play creative passes or to expect from Frenkie to do anything creative in the opponent's half.

So, Torres 90% surely won't suddenly turn into a better dribbler and a way better finisher.

He might improve finishing skills a bit, but he will always be:
1. a winger who can't run and dribble
2. a no9 who is not a no9
3. a hybrid winger-cf who can score here and there and not do anything else

As Birdy said, imagine having that type of winger for the next 10 years who will never dribble past his marker.

He moved great from the flank to the center, combining with partners.
Hell, did you even watch the match?

Yes I did.
You prob watched a different game.
Show me an instance when he started out wide doing what you said.

@Blayasensat: "Yes, Ferran missed 4 chances. The question is: how long has it been since a Bar?a attacker got into those positions so frequently? I am convinced that he will start scoring soon, and I really liked his match today."
Albert Blaya Sensat

Agree with Alberto.

But this is impossible to explain to stupid fans who do not understand anything about football.

Stop watching football. Go watch burger eating tournaments for speed. This "sport" is much simpler than football.

Pal, Alberto also tweeted this:

"Ferran has to play as a 9. On the left wing he falls short "

Aye so BBZ claims are..

Torres at 21 has peaked with 16 goals in 114 games.
Torres is on a par ability wise with Braithwaite and LDJ.
Torres will be worth 12m in a year with Barca trying and failing to loan him out.

Lets see.

What would it take for Torres to be a success? Lets see you vanish from that one as dont want to be held to it without making it wildly unrealistic.
