180million for Coutinho is outrageous. hes worth 100m at most, don't get me wrong though he'll be great for us and im excited to see if he can raise Suarez from his slump. i dread to think how much players will cost after the WC

theres rumours of Hazard wanting out of Chelsea, i wont be suprised if Madrid pay 200m

Well he's worth more to us than Hazard is so we ain't doing bad at 140 million plus add ons

Coutinho would come a long way in finally having a Midfield that isn't weak by our standards.

He's just part of the puzzle but a big one at that imo.

I think he and Busquets make up 2/3 of the puzzle. There isn’t anyone better in their positions currently in world football than Busi and Coutinho (in the Iniesta midfield role)

The only problem would be Raktiic.. he’s hot and cold but mostly cold... backwards and sideways passes. Someone like a Eriksen/Verratti type of player instead of Raki and we would have one of the best midfields once again. Not sure who though.

Eriksen is not even similar to Verratti...
If anything he is more simmilar to Coutinho than Verratti.

Probability has now risen to 75% according to bookies.

Starting to believe it might happen this January after all.

It will have to be shared between Sergei Roberto / Paulhino/ Rakitic ... whoever stays on ..

In my opinion the fee is irrelevant, I judge worth by his importance to the teams needs and then afterwards his impact and longevity. Paying 140+40 for a world-class creative midfielder that could remain at the club for 5-7 years during his peak is an easy bet for me.

Agreed. They would both fit that position well though. When players come to Barca they change the way they play like Rakitic.. Verratti obviously wouldn’t have changed his style much.. I think Eriksen in that deep CM role would be class.

So basically, if he comes, Sergi won't have a place in Midfield again. I was really looking forward to see a permanent Midfielder Sergi Roberto.

Why's that? His not inclusion in midfield is result of Valverde's stubborn decision not determinism of current situation, whether Coutinho comes or not. He should be firmly ahead of Rakitic. He and Poulinho should compete for that spot.

I agree that up to 180m is way too much but honestly we've crossed that line a number of times now, the cat is out of the bag. We paid out the ass way over value for the likes of Gomes, Paulinho, Arda, etc. Even Dembele really isn't worth 140m. Neymar was also sold under value at 222m, we should have simply forced them to pay the buyout and taxes with 0 negotiation (the buyout should've been way higher in the first place).

idk, but to me the point is that it seems too little too late to be making a stand on prices at this point. Barca have already been thoroughly bullied by clubs this past summer in negotiations, deteriorated relationships with other clubs, and we are seen as one of the bigger antagonists in the transfer market right now and have had like 3 or 4 threats of reporting us to FIFA. We've already set our precedent for buying high and selling low, no club would let us forget that again while forging new agreements. It's just hard to see Barca not getting screwed over in marquee transfers these days.
